I propose what I would call the Pétain argument:

When someone insists that they’re a good guy because they did a good thing long ago, regardless of the fact that they’re being criticized for doing bad things *now*.

Can also be called the Newsom argument.

“Character says something and countless articles publish it as fact” is 90% of Star Wars articles at this point.

Biggest example was when there were a bunch of articles about “STAR WARS REVEALS LUKE SKYWALKER’S LIFE” and it was… a what-if Force vision that Luke had…
