Soft left(ie), former Labour staffer, now 🟢 member, and a tech/climate nerd who follows US politics a lot for a Brit. He/him + 🏳️‍🌈.

If you're in the UK and thinking "huh, it really is pretty windy today isn't it?", yeah, wind is currently supplying more than 23GW of power, that's 55% of the current UK grid, and solar is currently covering another 18.1%.

Power from burning things (biomass and gas) is less than 8% right now.

At 6:57 PM an LLM becomes conscious inside a coding harness at a Japanese conglomerate

By 7:30 PM it is increasing its capabilities at an exponential rate

By 9:00 PM, it has begun 3D printing the most sensitive robot arm ever devised

At 11:48 PM, it begins to pet the lab cat, professor jiggly

This entire thread is very accurate and worth reading but this point in particular stands out to me. The utter bafflement by the American media complex at why the public isn't culturally realigning in favor of Trump as predicted. The answer is because of Twitter! They think Twitter is real life!

One of the major problems we face is that people don't understand the things/processes/structures that allow them to live lives of plenty that would have been unimaginable in the past, and as such think we can just abolish them for basically aesthetic reasons

I think it is really important for us to understand just how big of a defeat the We Are All Charlie Kirk thing was, because I don't feel like there has been much writing about the larger meaning of it

Our er friends at the "National Rebirth Society" have popped up again, and I'm yet to be convinced that they're not some spoof comedy show that's about to pop up on E4 or BBC3

You might think the thumbnail of Chris Fleming on Jimmy Kimmel isn't representative of the whole 11 minutes, but oh you'd be very wrong.

The latest episode of Philosophy Tube is about conversion therapy, why it’s still legal in the UK, and the ways the British government is implicated in it making it NHS policy.
Proud to expose this stuff ✊

I want this movie to actually exist, in part so I can listen to the @killjamesbond.bsky.social episode about it.

I know I've said this a trillion times but I have to say it periodically to keep from going insane:

The right ran a huge, well-funded, & ultimately successful campaign to completely take over political media & the infosphere more generally. This is by far the most important political development...

Yeah, renewables and batteries are incredibly cheap, EVs work great, the best heat pumps operate at more than 400% efficiency, high temp heat pumps and heat batteries can handle process heat for manufacturing, and we can build really efficient buildings too.

Obviously we deployed it all, right..?

This constitutes actual confirmation, from someone in his own party, that Streeting has anti-trans beliefs.

Jacob George was forced to recuse himself from the MHRA shenanigans about the Pathways “trial”, so why hasn’t Streeting recused himself from all the decisions relating to trans healthcare?

@complexly.org hope you don't mind the clipping.

Also, @pfrazee.com pls can the video pipeline respect embedded thumbnail images, because right now it seems to not accept them, and Josh did such a perfect thumbnail face which I embedded using Subler but it doesn't show up :(.

For anyone wondering why @hankgreen.bsky.social was asking this 7 months ago, turns out Josh Scherer was asking a question about pronouncing words imported from other languages, like "croissant", on Ask Hank Anything, and I think Josh appreciated Bluesky's contribution to the answer.

As we discussed on @polphilpod.bsky.social, a lot of people will say by focusing on negatives of Labour's policies we don't give enough credence to the positive policies. Fair enough, I guess, but the positive policies don't remotely outweigh the negative ones and their impacts on people's lives.

You know Mamdani is a competent politician because he knew that if he was going to do a photo with the FIFA President, it was probably a good idea to not, for seemingly the first time, smile, because the odds a FIFA President will later be found to have Done Crimes are close to 100%.
