The latest episode of Philosophy Tube is about conversion therapy, why it’s still legal in the UK, and the ways the British government is implicated in it making it NHS policy.
Proud to expose this stuff ✊

This was great, and well worth my time; thanks for making it. I just wish I could persuade my MP to engage with this. I’ll keep pushing

One thing I’d push back on slightly is the notion that cis women pretty much get estrogen on demand.

As someone with a close relative of someone with premature ovarian insufficiency, I can assure you that isn’t the case, and I think that’s a potentially productive area for building common ground.

After all, the same papers scaremongering about trans issues frequently shroudwave about HRT.

It's a really excellent done video, Abi and her team did a great job.

But I just can't agree that the individuals propping up these anti tans organizations don't deserve harassment.

I understand why you & others might feel that way, but they need to be investigated, charged & imprisoned if justified.

Harassing them, will enable them to claim victimhood, which will have the opposite effect. 🤷

It's something she has to say not because she definitely thinks these people deserve to be free of consequence for their behavior, but because she has to get out ahead of the attempted distractions from her point where they accuse her of driving a hate mob or harassment campaign.

The people wanting legislatively to bully trans kids out of existence, either shoving them in the closet or bullying them to suicide, they deserve the same level of hate and danger they inflict on innocent people and kids.

I was so impressed by the chicken. It must have taken a lot of patience to get the chicken to be so chill in every shot.

I'm glad I contributed to this, but the chicken handler definitely deserves the most cred. What a star that bird is.

As an intersex person who went through conversion "therapy" as a child in 2007-2009 in the UK, this shit hits hard. Even in my 30s, I have a long way to recovery.

Excellent video. You ought to be very proud of yourselves. I'm grateful that you represented intersex people so well, too.

I so want to watch this. But also a survivor of conversion therapy, I am quite anxious. I may have to watch this in short bits. I saw it popup on Nebula a while back and I totally intend to get to it.

I don't know why hearing Tom Scott in one of you videos caused me to cry, but here we are, I guess. If it wasn't for your cominhg out video and a transmasc friend of mine coming out, I don't know where I would have ended up. You probably saved my life. Thanks <3

Loved the “headless chickens” moment.

But seriously, this is an incredible piece of work. Thank you! 💖 I hope those UN and EU bods see this, & maybe even the ECtHR who might expedite challenges to the SC ruling. C’mon, let me believe in some good karma just this once.

I just love you and your videos so much! 😘

I would like to recommend a highly acclaimed documentary series, especially part 7. Victor's story and that of his surgeon is so touching (turn on auto-translate subtitles):

Three years.

After three years and change of having it feel like the work we did mapping these incestuous groups and their networked influence was pointlessly screaming into the void it was surreal to me when I saw that work actually used here instead of just plain rotting. Thank you.

It’s an emotional topic to get through, and even at two hours there’s plenty avenues left to go down.

You (and your team) have done a remarkable job putting it together

In a better timeline, it'd be common knowledge from the youngest of ages that sex (body one requires to be existentially okay and instinctively recognizes) is as innately hardwired as sexuality, and that 1% of the population isn't born with the f, m, or nb that matches their respective sex.

For

example, a female born with her body and a female unlucky enough to be born without her body are both literally female, the latter just a deformed one.

We're NOT changing our sex, we're *aligning/fixing* our bodies to *match* our sex. It's not transition, it's reconstructive healthcare/surgery.

Thank you. I knew in broad strokes about the Cass review but I didn't understand the whole context and this was really eye-opening. I'm left with tears drying and still processing it all.

It's staggering that so much ignorance and hate comes from such a small group of persistent people and still penetrates government in this day and age. I'm appalled. Outraged. Motivated.

This is great. I wasn’t following but will now—I toured the UK last autumn with a book on how LGBTQ fought back in the 1930s against fascism and how it’s all come round again.

Thank you Abigail. Have you seen this important Australian publication with the story of a trans woman who survived childhood medical conversion practice abuses?

Just something to be mindful of, when sharing a Youtube it's best to remove the Source Identifier (SI) part from the URL. It makes Youtube able to track people outside of their platform and see how they're related to each other. On Bluesky it can be difficult to see if a link still has the SI

One thing that struck me whilst watching was the parallels between how queerness was medicalised and how neurodivergence was too. Both start to be medicalised and dubbed "disorders" at around the same time and both have involved efforts to "prevent" or "cure" them.

They also have a strong parallel with transness specifically since you still need a psychiatrist to tell you if your neurodivergent just as you need one to determine if you are "really" trans or not.

Great video Abi. Really enjoyed it. One of your best!

Great episode. It was only until I heard Abigail say the term "hidden trauma" about 5 times did I realize that I had a therapist in the 1990's blame my transness on some forgotten assault when I was young.

You say that the medical community in the UK when It comes to queer people is not interested in the best outcomes but only on authority.
Currently studying medicine in germany and ... that's just what medicine is about in like almost everything. Authority. Individuals in the system don't understand

because systemically, every piece of knowledge or evidence from the humanities get ignored and or undermined because the SYSTEM as a whole is just a tool to control society. It's really bad. Disabled people, children, senior citizens, women, racial minorities, psychological patiens. Everything is

This made me rather angry (complimentary).

You put forward a very well reasoned argument - in a properly functioning society this should be a massive scandal.

The only thing I know about gay conversion therapy is it echoes autism conversion therapy (ABA).

ABA treats autism like an illness and can be extremely abusive. It intends to force children to mask and confirm instead of working with them. Lotta parallels there!

Looking forward to watching 💯

This may just be THE most important video on youtube right now. I'm transfem (closeted) and I plan on coming out soon. Before I do, I'm going to track down the sources used in this video to use as evidence against any arguments my parents may have (I'm 26 and Canadian so they can't stop me anyways)☺️

NHS has evil running through it. When I (cis) had testicular torsions & autoimmune complications, I was told by more than 1 NHS hosp uro they'd prefer me to be dealt with by a Coroner (i.e. DBS) than granted a listed surgery for a diagnosed pathology, just because 'I got into this to make babies...'
