This entire thread is very accurate and worth reading but this point in particular stands out to me. The utter bafflement by the American media complex at why the public isn't culturally realigning in favor of Trump as predicted. The answer is because of Twitter! They think Twitter is real life!

yeah long long ago journalists gave up on leaving the house, and used twitter as a substitute for taking the pulse of the nation, that was ALWAYS BAD! but when twitter became X it stopped being representative of anything at all (if it ever was)

also a lot A LOT of on line alt-ish journalists of the 2010s (VOX looking at you!) saw being outside the mainstream and norm (but not too much now!) as important so ended up in group chats with "provocative thinkers" (read off brand Nazis) and now those people work for and run the mainstream media

Ahhhhhh so satisfying to see yet another super-compelling argument to completely abandon X. I left the day that Musk bought it & I'm sorry to see people continue to inflict so much pain on themselves by their decision to stay. People. You made a stupid decision to stay, just move on

the undoubted best example of this is Yglesias off-handedly dropping a line about how "birthright citizenship seems like an unpopular policy, maybe we should reform it"

literally nowhere is this true except for Twitter, your vibe compass has been broken beyond repair

that and the Charlie Kirk eulogizing

so many media liberals were scrambling to uplift the guy and keep the peace because they read a thousand posts of how "civil war is coming"

and then in reality literally nobody gave a shit about him after a week, not even his widow

Thinking about what happened to Twitter….but then thinking about how it’s making the people who still use it delusional

That they workshop ideas and are monitoring how “this plays on Twitter” is the tell. They’re invested. And because Elon has made it so any top news items will automatically have a MAGA spin on it, it’s over amplified

Twitter rots a person's values. Too many people believe themselves to be immune to propaganda, even as the constant bath of it insidiously nudges their personal norms/Overton window toward fascism and oligarchy.

"Elon isn’t making me more Nazi aligned! I need the views!” -every dipshit on Twitter

During 2021 or so, I remember doomscrolling on twitter but then stopping to look outside and it looked so peaceful. I reminded me that I felt the world was going to explode because I was reading negative news

You want to see the world that inspired Bari Weiss to handle CBS news the way she has been, the world that made them think Charlie Kirk was the white MLK? It's Twitter! On Twitter people actually say this shit, it's the consensus opinion a lot of the time! But Twitter is the only place that's true.

These "media elites" are so insulated by Elon Musk's algorithm that they've lost the ability to conceive of an American culture that isn't a 1:1 match for the one they bathe in every day on X, The Everything App, where every white man under 30 jacks off to Hitler and the race war is 5 minutes away.

twitter was just an extension of their beltway circle but now with more "out in the open nazi flavor" - and their too happy or chicken to stand about it (which they probably always were.
