Buttigieg is interesting. He is able to charm white liberals with degrees with NPR tote bags who brunch and their moms who go to #NoKings rallies. It makes him telegenic on cable news, which is filled with yuppies. But after seven years as a public-facing Democrat, Black voters still don't trust him

Is there a specific reason, that you know of, as to why or is it just one of those feelings that can't be shook?

He would need a “Obama wins Iowa” type moment in a Southern state in the primary for him to have an actual chance in winning the nomination.

He says good things relatively that seem completely devoid of historical context and lot of the time. Which I think white liberals love. Like, this is quite obviously not the first time the US is the Death Star but it’s surely much nicer to think we can just go back to The Good of Biden

This pisses everyone off, but the Democratic Party coalition is Black Church ladies in the South, midwestern labor union members, working-class Latinos and Asian-Americans, woke white college-educated urban-dwellers, and increasingly, white women with degrees in suburbs.

Pete's been with us (nationally) for a while and he's been running for office for almost 20 years but I think the relative thinness of his resume gets glossed over. Popular small-ish town mayor and Secretary of Transportation is a step to ... ? Senator? Governor, maybe? But president?

While I'd consider my self a woke white college college, Midwestern rural union labor vet. Pete's smart, super rizzful, and stuff. I want him in a cabinet position or congress. His language skills alone should make him a secretary of state canidate.

Every dog has his day. Buttigeg will have his day and most blue chip company workers and unions aren’t fully vested until 10 years time in rate. We wait but don’t eliminate

There’s no such thing as an ideal candidate and there never will be. The inability to accept this keeps leftists/liberals/progressives fighting against each other instead of coalescing against the GOP. It’s a loser’s mentality to expect that there’s a perfect candidate out there.

And the Midwest labor ppl aren't to be trusted. The leaders say one thing, but the members vote another.

I don't wanna be rude, but next time I hope they latch onto someone better than Joe "Oh, they'll come to their senses" Biden.

I disagree. Black voters are harder to win over which is why they supported Biden over the others in 2020. He’s a known quantity. I’m pretty active in Detroit Democratic organizations, and he’s growing on Black activists. If Clyburn supports him in 28, I think he could run away with the nomination.

I know this is separate from the topic - but just want to say I absolutely love Pete. He genuinely cares about issues, people and does not seem to have any other agenda other than being a public servant. He’s also extremely smart and an excellent problem solver.

have a hard time forgiving him for spearheading the anti-Bernie movement

Wow, do you have any evidence black voters are against Pete? Your whole tone is snearing and dismissive, not at all fair to a dedicated public servant of the liberal persuasion.

Reporting that suggests why, including mine, is barely mentioned by mainstream media, even during the presidential campaign.

Funny how propaganda works

Some troll says something false, ppl ignore the truth and a stereotype is built out of thin air!

Facts matter

He’s got a professional class vibe, and the only elected office he’d had is mayor of a medium-sized city in Indiana. Being a Cabinet member is no substitute.

Bill Clinton and Barack Obama are generational political talents, and Joe Biden had been in national politics since 1972.

Biden, Obama, and both Bill and Hillary Clinton had all been elected statewide before they had gotten their nominations. And ironically, of these four nominees, the one who initially faced some skepticism from Black voters was Obama.

As eloquent as he is (he was VP on my ideal ticket in 20), I understand the lack of movement. He's done very little to assuage Black voters of our concern about being whipping boys for liberal outreach to Bernie Sanders rightwing base.

He functionally threw trans ppl under the bus b4 it was cool

Pete is great. POC should trust him because even though he’s white he’s also part of a marginalized group, so he can relate to them.

He can't even manage to be an ally to trans folks. Marginalization doesn't automatically equal kinship.

The thing is... they don't. Black folks not only see him as untested and too young. By virtue of being from Indiana and a mayor of a college town, he doesn't have deep ties with them. Compare that to Uncle Joe, who when he first ran for Senate, was a consensus between church ladies and white people.

Black people should trust him cause he’s gay is a fucking wild take

It's far more than black voters that don't trust Ol McKinsey Pete.

To be fair, there are a lot of very smart people who went to work for McKinsey right out of school but then left when they became disillusioned with their model and culture.

I'm in no position to speak on behalf of Black voters... but maybe they lack trust in him because they feel he doesn't hear them, as opposed to questioning his character. I'll hang up and listen...

I have found him disingenuous the last few years because I feel like he’s moved more towards the center. It makes me not trust him. Is it just because he wants to run for President or is that what he believes? I guess either way I’m to the left of him.

I hate him. His coddling on Elon Musk as transportation secretary is a lot of the reason we are here today. He is a simp and was unwilling to crack down on all of Elon self driving bullshit and deadly cars. And then we get into his disaster exploding rocket site in Texas he did nothing about.
