Biden, Obama, and both Bill and Hillary Clinton had all been elected statewide before they had gotten their nominations. And ironically, of these four nominees, the one who initially faced some skepticism from Black voters was Obama.

But Black voters in presidential elections tending to support the most moderate or “Establishment” choice is really a post-1988 phenomenon. You wouldn’t have said that in 88 or 84.
