Pete is great. POC should trust him because even though he’s white he’s also part of a marginalized group, so he can relate to them.

The thing is... they don't. Black folks not only see him as untested and too young. By virtue of being from Indiana and a mayor of a college town, he doesn't have deep ties with them. Compare that to Uncle Joe, who when he first ran for Senate, was a consensus between church ladies and white people.

He can't even manage to be an ally to trans folks. Marginalization doesn't automatically equal kinship.
