The future is urban. It's here, if we want it.

Artemis II splashing down exactly when predicted, to the minute, after traveling like 700,000 miles is why we need dedicated bus lanes tbqh.

USPS.com is giving errors I've never encountered on a website of its scale - I log in and the page it takes me to is "You've been logged out."

I know the password is right because I logged in exactly once before it logged me out and the cycle of frustration started

With the benefit of knowing more about him... 10 years ago, when Swalwell was slightly embarrassed by the brief association with that PRC spy, weren't the articles in that weird coy wording suggesting they knew he was sleeping with her but weren't able to print it?

The guy who founded the Independent Voter Project is the man who caused the energy crisis a quarter century before with his badly written law, Steve Peace.

Well, presumable donor to the Independent Voter Project that got it onto the ballot. Here were the $25k+ donors once it became Prop 14 on the June 2010 ballot

If anyone's wondering, California's top-two system came into being because a Republican senator in 2008 traded it being voted on for letting a budget go through.

Look, budgets were very hard to pass before Prop 25 (2010).

Major donor? Republican Charles Munger, Jr. ivn.us/posts/the-real-history-californias-top-two-nonpartisan-primary-electoral-reform

/5 And that's just the first page. If I analyzed this for a client I'd tell them that this lawyer doesn't know defamation law and is in a panic. I'm not anybody's lawyer here but this letter's bluster and lack of professionalism scream "the dude did it" to me.

Makes sense. It's a ceasefire that's not a ceasefire in a war that isn't a war, and the Strait is both opened and closed. So it follows that talks should be both direct and indirect.

Don't worry, one of the candidates for Swalwell's seat has already been committing sexist mistreatment as confirmed in an official investigation. Steady hand on the tiller

Somewhere there's a photo of me & a few others grinning in between Barbara Lee & Tom Steyer at a 2018 voter registration drive in Modesto. Wish I had saved it!

Brits making singular nouns take plural verbs is silly, probably overcorrecting from more complex noun phrases like "United States" going singular

What I find interesting about skilled trades - talk to anyone who recently exited and it wasn't the money, the physical difficulty of the work, or the hours. It was the people who make up that silver tsunami deciding it was part of their job to make them miserable enough to quit.

Contrary to public perception a huge % of pregnant teenagers in the 1990s were impregnated by adult men. The younger they were, the larger the average age gap between mother and father was. Fixing teen pregnancy was in part a clampdown on statutory rape. That's what conservatives want to reverse.

...it often it adopts the local branding of different systems. Which works for locals, but hard for tourists. Especially when they go from pictographic to ideographic like in CDMX.

All I ask is perhaps a categorization visible on mouseover.

Google Maps makes it really hard to tell in new cities what modes of transport they're recommending. The default "train" and "bus" icons are quite difficult to tell apart at a glance, but also...

U.S. building codes require two stairwells above three stories, which forces a layout that squeezes out larger apartments.

Much of the developed world allows single-stair buildings even up to 10 stories with no measurable safety tradeoff and more room for families.

people are getting hung up on the foreign steel thing, so it's worth noting that it's almost certain that the foreign steel was literally a bribe paid by arcelormittal to receive a 50% tariff reduction

On the flip side, with the people who sucked up higher gas prices for the sake of "being a proper country", something might finally get through when it's three months since a (headline-level) ceasefire & gas hasn't gone down

Sounds like quite the opportunity to work on the "to-policy" part of the posting-to-policy pipeline, and get paid to do it:

Possibly unpopular opinion: none of these are hot dogs.

They can all be something ending in "dog", but they are all different in kind by layering on an additional substantial protein (often fried). So chili dog, curd dog, etc.

They look good though!

Remembering the decompressed story in The Spirit where a young punk murders his neighborhood's soda fountain proprietor, then for at least two pages pretends to be filling in, stepping over the corpse to get someone an egg cream
