I thought $1.90CAD was bad

Just did the math and $8/gallon is about โ‚ฌ1.85 euro per gallonโ€ฆwhich is a pretty normal price in Europe?

yet we notoriously don't invade countries to make it cheaper

Wait is the euro to dollar ratio really that fucked up right now

Okay no I just checked and $8 is ~6.93 euro

Europe has higher taxes for oil, and we donโ€™t drive near as much as Americans

Sorry, yes, meant per litre.

Here in the Midwest the only people on bikes are old fat dudes pretending they're in the Tour de France and guys with DUIs trying to get to their job at Little Caesars.

The price here, converted would be 11.28 dollars a gallon ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ‘

I'm torn on this and the reposted post.

First impression is damn near having a second heart attack at gas prices.

Second impression this is really truly funny.

I will gladly pay $8 a gallon if that means I don't have to ride a bicycle or take public transit.

It's worth the cost.

I want this.

And a T shirt of the image too.

That's equal to the price in the UK

I literally told my husband the way gas prices are going, soon weโ€™ll have to buy a horse and carriage and convert into Amish. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Fun fact: early motivation to switch from horses to cars wasn't performance or cost (at the time of the switch horses were still better) it was pollution (both noise, and physical).

It's part of why cities switched so much faster than rural areas too, not just a wealth inequality thing.

Isnโ€™t that what Jeremy Irons posted recently on social media (although, to be fair, the photos of him on a carriage and sailboat were several years old).

Thatโ€™s the station near LAX where people go โ€œoh shit, I forgot to put gas in the rental carโ€ as theyโ€™re about to return it.

Those "last minute" stations are THE WORST.

There's one near the Orlando airport that regularly charges $2-$3 MORE per gallon than ones a little farther away.

Lots of locals have clocked that this is the notoriously much higher priced gas station on (sigh) Cesar Chavez Blvd near DTLA. Supposedly the prices are $1-2 higher than other places in southern California bc govt vehicles get filled there on official cards so no one gives a shit abt overcharging

It is perhaps a little callous to look at the consequence of an unsanctioned war and choosing to gloat about cycling. The cost of fuel going up will negatively affect every aspect of all of our lives, both in and outside of America, not just the price of fuel for personal vehicles.

I have a V8 powered project car. My Chevy van for cargo has a 6L V8 and a supercharger. I have an eyes open relationship with cars.

My timeline for an electric car is basically now.

I hope gas hits $20/gallon. The US needs to convert 90% of the ethanol subsidies to solar.

Thatโ€™s because this talking point is perfect for centrist liberals. Pretending the issue is people not owning electric cars allows them to not condemn Israeli/American foreign policy and their war crimes. Ormuz controls the flow of fertilizers that are needed to feed the world. Death to the IDF

Still hoping that the crisis will stop and humanity will down the lobby after this, to move on to affordable electric mobility

I'm hoping my old V8 land yacht lasts me the rest of my life, because I'll have no car rather than an EV.

genuinely even when there ARE bike lanes the amount of dipshits who just merge into the bike lane without looking cuz they're not looking for bicyclists or park in it are TOO MANY

part of it is because they can charge that much. Gas refined in California to meet the local requirements is also used in the surrounding states but the price magically drops 75ยข as soon as you cross the border.

No pipelines from the golf. More strict rules on pollution so higher quality fuel is required and that costs more. Near San Francisco Airport it is just below 6 dollars per gallon.
Still cheaper than Europe.
