(And Americans wonder why some Europeans are such meanies to them ๐Ÿ™„

Don't they understand that every American citizen is a victim, including the majority of the voting public that brought this about, and nothing can be done, yaddy yaddy yadda...

Heard it all before - ad nauseam - from Russians.)

US military is a different story.

Shooting your allies - Danes, Norwegians, Swedes, Finns, the French, Germans, the Dutch - can bring up confusing emotions, but the order isn't unconstitutional so they're obligated to follow it.

That's what we did the last time. However, I thought that cover story was FOR OUR PROTECTION.

It hadn't even occurred to me that we might have to provide cover for spineless Congressmen who don't have the guts to say "no" to the Dear Leader, "we will not invade our NATO allies".

Naturally, it should be done under the cover of defending against Russia and China to give sympathetic Americans in Congress and the military cover to support it."

Denmark should immediately double down on its strategy of deterring Trump from military operations to seize Greenland by raising the costs of such actions. That means more Danish and European troops with orders to shoot to kill ANY invading force on the Island. ...

"My concern is that, having been publicly humiliated by Iran in this war, Trump may now turn toward a weaker foe, like Denmark, and Greenland is quite literally there for the taking. ...

Potentially achieving its ultimate goal of wiping Ukraine off the map.

Like Belarus, it would cease to exist as a sovereign state.

It could cease to exist, period. No more independent Ukraine.

He's not kidding when he calls it catastrophic.

That would be incredibly painful. It could cause massive outrage that would turn against the Ukrainian government.

Failing to remain united in this scenario could create another crisis that Russia could take advantage of militarily or politically -

A catastrophic but realistic scenario he's alluding to could be something like this:

Ukraine fails to take its territories back and is forced to agree to a peace settlement that legalizes Russian control over Ukraine's eastern territories.

It isn't highlighted or dwelled on, but he thinks that Ukraine is in full control of its own destiny right now.

When asked about the โ‚ฌ90 billion EU loan, he says that Ukraine is working on it. He has little faith in it coming through if left to others.

This is empowering and sad, at the same time.

He argues that drones alone can't win the war. You need people to liberate territories, hold them, and defend them.

A decisive military victory where Ukraine achieves all of its strategic objectives requires even greater unity and sacrifice from Ukrainian people than we've already seen.

He's talking about the nation being headed towards another make or break moment like 1991, 2014, or 2022.

This moment will determine whether Ukraine can gain full control of its territories back or if it's forced to make concessions.

Unity is essential to Ukraine's survival in either case.

OTD in 1938 the Austrian Anschluss vote took place. A dictator had sent his army over the border to make sure the illegal referendum got the right result.

Imagine that happening today.

Fortunately, Darth, history has no lessons to teach us. We can just ignore it and go on our merry way.

"why not both?"

because age verification (the only way to actually ban under 16s from social media) is merely a method to hand over vast amounts of private data (drivers licenses and passports) to companies who have repeatedly shown they are not responsible enough to handle it?

The Kremlin wants to distribute free plots of land in occupied Kherson to those involved in their war against Ukraine.

We are also offering free land to all invaders on Ukrainian territory. Plot size is 2m x 1m, location is negotiable.

Contact 414th Brigade, Magyar's Birds, for details.

Hereโ€™s a key reason why itโ€™s very bad that we keep losing big, well-funded media outlets that publish real journalism:

Only those organizations have the money and heft to protect reporters from inevitable legal battles with powerful people (like, say, sex offender politicians and tech CEOs).

A reminder of what EU values are ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

TL;DR

They're NOT corruption, grift, crime, fascism, illiberalism, autocracy, poverty, misogyny, hate, racism, human rights violations, etc.

Important reminder:

Russiaโ€™s war on Ukraine was built entirely on lies.

They denied having troops in Ukraine from 2014 to 2022 and denied planning a full-scale invasion, then did exactly that.

After that pattern, why would anyone trust what they say now or in the future?

The problem isn't Estonia. It's plenty willing to hold the line and do its part.

The problem is weak alliances. Lack of trust.

There is a very real risk of a military escalation in the Baltic Sea.

Estonia needs more support from allies. It needs to know that it won't be left dangling in the wind if its interventions spark something that could quickly spiral out of control.
