It may seem like nerdy detail that the increasing weight of cars is worsening potholes, but it matters.

The car makers push to sell wider and heavier cars is increasing road maintenance costs and that affects us all.

Not to mention worse crash outcomes and less space to pass (wider) parked cars.

I don't know that I've ever seen a pope so radically reverse Catholic history, accepted theology for literally centuries, and call his predecessors corrupt and without divine mandate before.

"God does not bless any conflict" is an UNBELIEVABLE rupture of theological continuity. Good for him.

Take a look at the CNN sourcing and fact-checking on their Swalwell article. Look at how many extra people they contacted in order to corroborate claims. They viewed screenshots, called parents/husbands/friends/colleagues. They viewed TV footage and interviews, & more. Two things worth pointing out:

Think about it in terms of little kids — children need boundaries, they need to know that they have a balance of being controlled and being in control. And when they're not controlled? They oscillate wildly and cannot self regulate.

It's not different with adults, it's just bigger.

like awesome enough that I priced a train ticket and overnight hotel to come see. It's out of budget, but $50 less it might have been a thing I decided to do, because a mini trip would be nice and that is the advantage of Denver — Chicago is accessible as an overnight.

*Maybe* top two after a ranked choice would be okay, but as it stands? It's a disaster.

And better than ranked choice, would be ranked with No Candidate in the mix. Because if 9 are terrible and 3 are fine, and you've got 6 options, then you want to stop after 3, and no award everyone else!

This whole race has been a vivid demonstration of why top two is a terrible system. California would be better off simply going back to the traditional electoral system like most states use, and I say that as a dedicated hater of the usual model. Top two is uniquely worse.

Side note: it was not an open secret that Cuomo squashed the public corruption investigation into Silver. It was widely reported at the time. How that didn't kill Cuomo's career a half-decade earlier I'll never understand.

Sigh. It's even worse than the headlines. The victim remembers one of the encounters, which included vocal non-consent, injuries, and leaving a hotel wrapped in a blanket.

It also sounds like he's constantly getting drunk and sending dick pics, which might be why his staff jumped ship so quickly.

Somehow I missed that Tikkun.org closed at the end of 2024.

That is incredibly sad, and their archives seem to have followed into bit rot this year when the domain and the hosting lapsed. (Still visible via archive.org but their indexing is now gone.)

They will be greatly missed.

Because this does need detailing: Because getting elected is a privilege, not a right, and the job requires a high level of trust which must be earned and maintained and can be very easily blown, while innocent until proved guilty is about baseline rights, not privileges.
