All #Washington residents are in danger! We accidentally introduced Ring-tailed Lemurs to the Palouse after returning from a trip to Madagascar.

We regret to inform the community the lemurs have tamed local moose with the intent of forming a calvary with which to conquer the area.

Every nation on Earth has an obligation to ensure people are not dependent on the food they are able (or not) to grow. Subsistence ag should largely be a relic of our past in the same hunting and gathering is. We must do better. To romanticize subsistence like this is to romanticize starvation.

And you don't have to look to a history book to understand subsistence agriculture! A billion+ people survive on subsistence ag TODAY. They and their families have to pass up education opportunities. They starve when crops fail. They are desperately poor.

I love iNaturalist, but it's always so disheartening to upload an observation of a charismatic species & get a bunch of IDs while my arthropod & plant observations languish.

I don't need 5 people confirming that yes, that is indeed an elephant. I need 1 person to tell me what this weird bug is!

the mark of a true nature enjoyer is passionately, arbitrarily disliking species, esp by having low tolerance for annoyance. for ex, if an animal is too loud or behaves in a manner I feel is stupid, it is marked for death (being the focus of anecdotes about disliking animals for the rest of my life)

It’s cold comfort right now but, if past is prologue, spectacles of violence committed by the state against sympathetic civilians—especially when captured on camera—were the beginning of the end for Bull Connor and Jim Crow, too.

This stuff is good, seriously. If you or someone you know loves skin/haircare, they'll love Marula oil too. They'll especially love it if it helps restore rainforest and save lemurs.
