It’s cold comfort right now but, if past is prologue, spectacles of violence committed by the state against sympathetic civilians—especially when captured on camera—were the beginning of the end for Bull Connor and Jim Crow, too.

Yes! The majority of Americans don’t like seeing their neighbors and fellow citizens, beaten, attacked by police dogs, and trampled by police horses.

Net Opinion of ICE by AAPI actually improving over the period is quite an outlier not mentioned...

I hope you're right. An awful lot of MAGAts are on-line now spouting variations of "She had it coming"...

This whole thing has fucked me up in so many ways. As a mom, who drops her kids off at school, and would not be able to help herself spouting off at those cosplaying losers. I used to worry about my kids getting shot at school. Now I have to worry about getting shot myself. I live in MX border city

When I first read this tweet, I was unsure if it was referring to Iran or USA.

How much of that progress might be lost if the protests turn chaotic or destructive? We'll know more tomorrow, but I can't tell who (or why or when) broke the windows at the noise protest at the hotel tonight. A handful of similar images from Portland 2020 got turned into nonstop propaganda.

Yes, if protester violence becomes significant that will change coverage. A broken window would not usually qualify as significant property damage though. bsky.app/profile/owasow.bsky.social/post/3lhjiu5c7v22y

I thought about this the other day. When Americans saw teenagers getting hit with fire hoses of water and dogs set on them many white Americans were repulsed and the federal government had to step up. Who is going to step up other than us today? We must, but it is dangerous.

I will take this!

Hell, it's the 80 year cycle of history by Strauss & Howe that got me through the 1st term. History helps.

I hope that is true for us, too. Thanks for posting the positive side. I'm not feeling it, but need to.

Racist terrorists used to have to join the Klan or the PD (often both) but now they can join the federal detention and intimidation squads and get paid a lot more. But still, I think that you’re right. But there are going to be more Violet Liuzzos.
