āThatās home. Thatās us. On it everyone you know ⦠every human being that ever was ⦠lived out their lives. ⦠Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.ā
Went to Death Valley last weekend and hung out at Racetrack Playa for a bit. The absolute silence of the moment was spiritualāno planes, no wind, no other cars or people. A silence unachievable in most places on earth, at least outdoors
The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art002e009573
This morning Iām thinking of Sagan. āThink of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors, so that in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.ā
I thought the same, maybe the first time Iāve ever heard anybody in spacing audibly cry on comms. Columbia Mission Control got close, you can tell from the video. But this was visibly emotional in its in way
Last night, it was called out when we passed the 144-hour return mark. Why is that significant? Because weāve designed a crew survival approach for a cabin depressurization scenario through which we could support the crew for 144 hours. Todayās suit tests were part of testing those capabilities.
We need robotic space missions, we need amazing space telescopes, but we also NEED human spaceflight to inspire our imaginations and stir our curiosity. Itās very human to want to see the universe through the eyes of other humans
I will continue to say NASA PAO is stuck in 2010 at best, you canāt just invite a bunch of āsocial media typesā to launches anymore and have everyone see it on their Facebook feed
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
Most crazy thing about driving an EV is seeing how low your range gets at the top of a mountain, and how it goes back up like 40 miles by the time you get back to the bottom (not even counting the distance you traveled going down the mountain)
Days away from a lunar mission and itās devastatingly out of the public consciousness IMO. @nasaartemis.bsky.social should be sending the crews months in advance to Hot Ones, CONAF, etc. to get the word out about these things
Elected Democrats who want to keep the focus on āaffordabilityā and call anything else āa distractionā need to understand that the median Democratic voter who plays video games wants to live to see ICE depicted as the bad guys in future video games.
Walking thru the āUltra Normieā No Kings rally in my extremely rural, white town and there are Patagonia wearing moms carrying signs that say āDEAD PEDOPHILES DONT REOFFENDā and āICE GETS THE WALLā and I hi fived an old guy with a sign that said MY DADDY FOUGHT NAZIS AND SO WILL Iā this is wild
Thought Iād review the launch config of the Orion cabin today. While Iām sure there will be good video of the cabin while crew is being loaded, after the hatch is closed, I expect the lights will be turned real low so Iām not sure what youāll be able to see throughout ascent.
