When my father was in his late 80's and debilitated he asked me why he had done the heinous things he did, saying that it was something to do with young male aggression etc...Nope, it was pathological narcissism along with a sex addiction and compulsive lying. 1/

I told him that I didnt know and why was he ruminating on this now? he had dementia and cancer. I told him that he had destroyed by ability to trust and have normal relationships. He just said...hmmm.... like, how does that look on me? I was happy to have said it, but they never change. 2/

Exactly. You can divorce the problem, but with having kids you canโ€™t be rid of him until they are 18.

This speaks volumes. When our daughter freed herself from a narcissistic sociopath, we let her be but we're there with support, no judgement. 3 months later she felt she could talk about it. This started her process of becoming free from that part of her past. HE was weak. SHE was the strong one.
