We visited an open house in Harlem tonight. Gorgeous place and this is my dream bedroom.

Imagine sleeping surrounded by all those books. They come with the house (if you want).

I love how you can tell who the native Californians are in these replies.

It's like how you know a Nevadan because they always make sure the people around them are hydrated.

This is not hard to do. Get a bunch of book cases, throw out your kindle and get some real books.

You're welcome.

They come with the house?!? The owners are giving away all the books?!????? But why!
2

Not giving away, unfortunately. The whole house is full of great books, adds about 500k to asking price. (So you can cut the price by about that much too, but the collection is truly historic.)
0

Oh wow! Well that is awesome. An historic, $500k book collection is so impressive. We paid less than that for our house 😛

Looks like my bedroom! Surrounded by books I’ve read. At my age becoming forgetful I reach for the oldest book I can find and re-read it. Tonight was “The Old Man and the Sea”!

The smell of old books is basically nature's melatonin — there's actual science behind why bibliophiles sleep better surrounded by paper and ink. That room would give me the most wonderfully nerdy dreams.

What a terrible waste.

They could be out elsewhere being read, but instead they're stuck on shelves like some vain, indulgent, 3D wallpaper.

Appalling.

Would bother my allergies. Old books grow a form of mold in them that many people are allergic too! I cannot go into used book stores. Have to limit time in thrift stores for the same reason
2

That's too bad; I hope I never develop that allergy. I love huffing the smell of the library and the smell of books.

Not all of them! Some are just water damaged and manky. Others are almost like cinnamon or vanilla.

My wheelchair would not fit in this space, so I could transfer to the bed. It would be cool if it did, though! That's a visual representation of the ton of books in my Kindle Paperwhite. If you don't get the one with the light, you're not doing it right! LMAO.

Huh?! Who owns that many books and is just like "yeah, you can have them"? A lot of my books pre-date my husband and kids and I consider them family. I would bleed for them. (Damn paper cuts.)

It's possible they passed or are going into a different living situation. It would have to be something dire like that for me to just leave my books. Especially the ones from my loved ones.

Wow. How could I expect to sleep with all these books to peruse. Starts with just a chapter or two before you cannot escape a compelling story. Guilty as charged for reading a book cover to cover as a kid.

I LOVE books and my dream home would have a library. But my adhd mind would be grouping the books by color, genre, and never rest looking up at them. My bedroom is uncluttered and plain with no distractions because I also love sleep 😴

When I was a kid (in the 70s) I saw a film on TV and one character had a recessed bed that you stepped down onto, and it was surrounded on all four sides by bookshelves. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. (I still do.)

I don't remember the film but I remember the bookshelves...

At age 10 I designed my dream house. Half of the house was a library, basically a bookshelf maze with a reading nook at the center.

This makes my little bibliophile heart go pitter-pat. 🥰

Okay but my problem is that I would read all the titles and I would totally lowball them if I found a SINGLE fucking Ayn Rand title

Okay I cackled but I do have Rand on my shelves.

My dad and I bonded over books, and Rand was an author he appreciated. Since he passed, it's impossible to let go of books that have that memory attached.

I did give him shit for some of her reasoning; it was a game between us.

In 2014, we sold a condo in Fairfax VA. We asked the purchaser if they wanted anything that was in the condo because we would be selling the contents, too. They bought all the contents including the books in the study. We were amazed. We felt like we were being duplicated!
