Old. Cranky. Queer. Nerd. Canadian AF.

This is what happens when you don't teach world geography in grade school...

While I did not know this guard personally, the news of his death has affected me deeply.

Everyone needs to slow down - literally - and realize that in all likelihood, children were with this guard when he was struck and killed in this intersection.

Please slow down and put your phone down!

Did you know that, in Ontario at least, entering a crosswalk while there is a crossing guard with stop sign raised can result in a fine of up to $1000 and 4 demerit points? It varies by municipality and whether it is a Community Safety Zone, but I suggest that you refrain from trying to find out...

End of an era...

Just opened the last package of toilet paper that we stockpiled during the pandemic. 😉

Today is Pink Shirt Day: a day to fight bullying of LGBTQ2S kids across Canada.

As someone who regularly faced bullying throughout my school years - including frequently being called derogatory gay slurs by BOTH classmates AND teachers - I will be wearing my pink shirt AND pink toque today! 🏳️‍🌈💗

I have never been prouder to be an elderly homosexual.

(Ian McKellen is a national treasure. They just don't make actors like that anymore)

I feel both amazed and appalled that a child has the sociopolitical awareness to compose a song like this.

As a male child, at least he is less likely to be sexually assaulted by MAGA politicians and their acolytes. With a female child, it would be a virtual certainty.

I do hope that if Canada ever abandons the "daylight savings time" nonsense, it happens when a party that actually understands science is in charge. (i.e. ABC)

Been thinking we needed a protest song to define the moment...

I'm really disappointed that Mark Carney didn't pay the membership fee for Canada to get in.

Gosh knows, Pierre Poilievre would have signed us up in a second.

Proving that you're never too old to learn, I have just been educated over on Substack about why Trump's annexation of Greenland is in fact vital for America's national security: to protect it from its "historical enemies", Germany and the UK. Apparently, the UK is still holding a grudge from 1776.

Certainly can't argue with that.

Based on official measurement, we received 21 cm of snow at the YOW Airport yesterday, and due to the configuration of the intersection where I am a crossing guard, every single cm of that will be blocking the crosswalk this morning. Wherever you are, please watch for tiny pedestrians in snowsuits!

Looks like the purge of LGBTQ2S people in America has begun.

(those with any knowledge of world history were expecting this stage)

Just this morning my husband presented me with the "shortbread" recipe from a coworker that contained confectionery sugar and cornstarch.

Needless to say, I'm single again.

Pierre Poilievre confirming that the Cons are the party of law and order. As in, just follow orders and to hell with the law. International, domestic, whatever.

The best part about installing a new Canadian winter friendly "heat pump", and configuring your gas furnace as "auxiliary heat" only when the temperature drops below -15C, is when the "auxiliary heat" actually kicks in, you know NOT TO FECKIN GO OUTSIDE!

I hope this isn't a repeat of the "Great Ice Storm of 1998", which lasted for 6 days.

THAT time we were in a condo and hosted hot shower and pizza parties for our friends without power.

THIS time we're in a century home with questionable power at best.

We'll see...

Make the Yuletide Gay, my friends!

(seriously - even straight people deserve tinsel in their lives)

Happy Holidays to all who celebrate this time of year, no matter what you call it. Hope you are surrounded by family, friends, and food - not necessarily in that order.

Lest you think I am not committed, I will be wearing full rain gear underneath the "Reindeer Onesie" for my crossing guard shifts today because, despite the fact that it is pouring rain before turning to ice and snow, the kids reminded me that TODAY is "Pajama Day" (last day before Xmas).

Happy 30th Anniversary to my husband, my partner, my voice of reason, my shoulder to cry on, and the man that has been putting up with my version of crazy for 3 decades. As a gay kid in the 70's, I never imagined reaching this milestone - and having the legal documents to prove it. Love wins! 😘

The best part of being a crossing guard is being able to dress up as seasonal characters to entertain the children...

Say what you want about the Canadian government, but I highly doubt we will ever descend to the level where OUR government says "womp womp" and calls Canadian citizens "imbecilic morons" in an official social media post.
