While I did not know this guard personally, the news of his death has affected me deeply.

Everyone needs to slow down - literally - and realize that in all likelihood, children were with this guard when he was struck and killed in this intersection.

Please slow down and put your phone down!

Yeah no kidding.

Worth noting that the intersection where this happened is a 4-way stop, too. It is unlikely you could hit and kill the crossing guard without also running the stop sign.

My observations (single intersection/2 hours a day) are that about 2/3 of drivers are on their phones - or are obsessed with their own genitals - looking down at their laps for the majority of time, with occasional glances up. My guess is the driver was on his phone, and almost certainly speeding.
