“A sprawling online scam industry worth an estimated tens of billions of dollars a year is being powered by trafficked workers subjected to torture, sexual abuse and forced labour inside heavily guarded compounds in Southeast Asia, a new UN human rights report has found.”

Project Hail Mary is an extraordinarily likeable movie from an extraordinarily likeable actor.

Wandering around Borough Market reeling at the prices. £5.50 for a punnet of cherry tomatoes? Really?!

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

Man having a psychotic break on the 149 bus. Everyone studiously ignoring him. Welcome to London.

It was a mistake to give up learning facts because we could look them up online. Giving up thinking because AIs can simulate it would be catastrophic...

Fairly sure I have just been undercharged. £10 for a mani with polish can't be right, but he insisted it was.

Interesting read on what the jet fuel crisis means for Europe: www.euronews.com/my-europe/2026/04/07/how-serious-will-the-jet-fuel-crisis-in-europe-become (UK still has three months' supply after the last tanker arrived)

Delighted to receive my copy of @analogsf.bsky.social today! So nice to see a story in proper, old school print. #amwriting

Today is my birthday. Woke up 3.30, checked phone to see whether apocalypse had commenced. Went back to bed. Messaged with Iranian friend about how nice to have a ceasefire on my birthday. Spent lots of money on the basis we probably weren't running out of jet fuel. Ceasefire collapsed.

Spotted today in #Portsmouth

Bloke in the image: "How can I demonstrate that Trump is great person, and not a perv that molested kids?

I know, I'll make an image of him dressed up as a creepy looking priest!

I'll get it printed on a hoodie and wear it around Southsea"

Words fail me...

A commenter notes that "Trump managed to be both Hitler and Chamberlain in the same negotiation. An unprecedented feat." 😭

The thing about the beach in England compared to the beach in Bali is... It's such a treat!

We are writing to you from the Stone Age and we control the Strait of Hormuz.

Chatting to an Anglo-Iranian friend who is very far from a fan of the regime (not even Muslim) and the pride she takes in her people's humour and courage under fire is something else. Such a massive own goal.

Beats me, however, why shoe colours are so gendered! Guys' colours are much nicer but my feet are too small for men's sizes.

Parkrun addiction has progressed to the point of going to Run Company for a gait analysis. To my surprise, my gait is OK. And the difference between running shoes and an old pair of Nu Balance is chalk and cheese.
