Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX was originally written for a week long game jam in 2017! The graphics and gameplay have since been overhauled, but all of the mechanics are still there

Sometimes creativity requires something other than a desk! Parts of Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX were written from places like this

Did you know? Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX for the Nintendo E-Reader only has 16kb of program code space- that’s half of Super Mario Bros! The game has to store some of its level data as graphics just to fit!

I’ve been teasing it for a bit, but here’s the official word: Dizzy Sheep Disaster: Ex is going on sale on April 14th!

I’ll have around 100 copies for sale through an online store to start. Stay tuned to get your copy of the game for your Nintendo e-reader and the web!

Did you know? The e-reader has a NES emulator on it, but due to GBA limitations you have to carefully design your art with duplicate lines to make it look crisp! Sprites are actually 6x8 instead of 8x8

More detail in this blog post: igwgames.com/blog/2025/06/22/making-a-game-for-the-e-reader-using-nes-tools/

I’m starting to make final cards for Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX! Part of the process has been printing and testing full sheets of cards.

This is done by cutting them into numbered strips, then running them through the e-reader to test the dotcodes

After much adjusting and tweaking, the cards for Dizzy Sheep Disaster are finally printing and cutting reliably! Here’s a pic of the final cards, and the packaging they will come in!

I will have this first alpha release playable at the Ann Arbor Game Fest, this Sunday in Ann Arbor Michigan.

I will probably not release it onto the internet until next week. I still have some prep for the con and I don't want to rush anything.

It's a really early version, don't get too excited :)

Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX is coming along! I think I’ve found a reasonable way to print the final cards! Just some minor alignment issues to solve now.

If all goes well expect to see these at an upcoming retro gaming con!

Quick update on Dizzy Sheep Disaster: EX: the project is still going strong! All cards are now designed, and I'm looking closely at options for printing.

Not sure on a release date just yet, but I'm hoping to have more information soon.

A very early version of Dizzy Sheep Disaster is featured in this! That version is nearly unrecognizable compared to the full e-reader game now. (Which is coming along slow and steady!)

If you ever wanted to build an emulator give this a try! #gamedev #homebrew #nesdev
