I can tell you from experience, it was not great when the founder at the boutique accounting firm I was at took a giant payday and left us in the loving embrace of private equity after promising us for a decade he would not do that.

when i moved back here in 2021, there were 2 emergency vets in the entire pittsburgh metro area, these days there are at least 5, all three of the new ones are PE, plus a whole slew of Banfields and MedVET365’s. Gross stuff all around

I still don't get how all the shit these guys do aren't massive conflicts of interest and violations of fiduciary duty.

PE usually only works in private markets, when they buy a public company they take it off market, their fiduciary duty is to themselves. Likewise, there's no conflict of interest if you own the company.
