I can tell you from experience, it was not great when the founder at the boutique accounting firm I was at took a giant payday and left us in the loving embrace of private equity after promising us for a decade he would not do that.

As much as I bitch about the USSR, they were onto something with collectivization. It's a little harder to sell a co-op out from under everybody.
