Yes, I recognize I myself can sometimes veer into this territory when I advocate for using transit or Amtrak, but I try not to hide those problems and sometimes I have to tell people "yeah, that mode isn't going to work for you".
Jimmy Carter was a failed president because he told Americans to put on a sweater. The Green movement has provoked backlash because of its tone of degrowth and going without.
As a communications strategy never try to sell people on making do or accepting inconvenience.
Yeah. this Iran thing sucks, but the change in filling my tank today vs a month ago was $15 for a range of 475 miles. That's 3 extra cents per mile. My point here is that pure EVs have real limitations as primary vehicles and telling people its NBD undercuts the credibility of the EV message.
Maybe life is just more relaxed in the Midwest, but when I have to drive to Pittsburgh I'm fighting for every chunk of time I can to preserve my PTO and if I have to arrive by 4pm, that charge time would come directly out of my PTO.
I ❤️ @techconnectify.bsky.social but he has a blind spot re: EV capability and what American consumers will accept. From a Midwestern frugality POV 45 minutes of charging on a 5hr trip is "ok", but if one must lose an extra hr of work the opportunity cost is $25-$250+
Blue states need to be proactive about bringing an end to dealerships. They are a core part of GOP power and the median voter HATES them anyway.
Still, the EV future is a vehicle that has a sealed battery that's fucked in 3 years and only solution is to purchase a new vehicle (likely via a "plan").
Thanks DART. You schedule the red line to miss an hourly Silver Line departure by 1 and 3 minutes. The Silver Line has one job and it's to make Red and Green Line connections!!! It's called a timed transfer!
The constant churn of D.C. mayors from 2007-2015 and activist council members doomed the DC streetcar far more than the shared travel lanes or inflexibility of the mode. I do agree with @humantransit.bsky.social's recent posts that getting to a viable opening segment is also a major factor.
I just saw that Port Henry was the least used Amtrak Station in New York State. It's also the northernmost station one can reliably day trip on the Adirondack. (Something I did to ride the great dome without paying for a hotel night.)
