Every country has its big lie moment. This was the right's - the economy.

National inherited a AA+/AAA credit economy, one of the lowest OECD debt to GDP ratios, “better than expected” finances & positive growth expectations.

Importantly Treasury always forecasted inflation drops & no recession.

Nearly 100 NSW service stations in #Australia fined $1,100 each over misleading petrol prices

In #NZ, the government stopped MBIE from reporting on fuel profit margins, allowing this behaviour to go undetected & unpunished

National cutting public health while diverting money to private health providers like Cecilia Robinson's Tend and private hospitals that Shane Reti owns is pretty darn stupid

Can anyone tell me WTF National would order MBIE to stop reporting fuel margins from March 18? Price gouging support or is there a more benign reason here?

Chris Bishop's coup attempts has lost him his spot as Leader of the House. All those lies and tries for nought. Ha. Penny Simmonds, Environment Minister, rewarded for saying we veered too far towards caring for the environment, Penk for social media antics & Simeon for you know what - being himself

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

In light of Thomas Coughlan today describing Chris Penk as a "top performer", a reminder that in 2024 he lied about the cost of insulation standards to new builds and Coughlan's employer NZME never corrected the record.

Whoah a NZ train driver ran through multiple stop signals while using his mobile phone. Transport Accident Investigation Commission has called on Kiwirail to implement engineering controls that would stop trains automatically if they run red stop signals.

So #NZ PM Chris Luxon personally assured Sean Plunket he "had his back" and would help with the independent BSA decision, claims Plunket.

And Plunket claims he's not a broadcaster despite calling himself a "journalist and broadcaster for nearly 40 years"

#NZpol Winston still playing for his crowd.

Annoying, but he’s entitled to that.*

BUT about that claim…

While there are vaccine side effects, you HAVE to look at both sides of risk equation. It’s the *balance* of what risk vaccines have _against_ the risks from the disease.

41,000 jobs lost in 2 years is wild. Auckland lost 21,000 filled jobs over the same two-year period while construction shed 20,000 jobs & manufacturing 10,000. Over 165,000 Kiwis are now unemployed, worst in 13 years, but much worse when you consider 3% of NZ citizens have fled for overseas

one of my students is from Iran and when she returned from a visit she brought an amazing advisor-y gift: a little pack of saffron from her hometown of Isfahan

in honor of that saffron, here's the Ellington/Strayhorn ballad 'Isfahan', from THE FAR EAST SUITE, ft. saxophonist Johnny Hodges

Hipkins: "If we get to a point where we have to actively ration fuel, we need to know now what that's going to look like. So who's going to have access? Who's not? The sooner people know that, the sooner they can make their own contingency plans."

Also calls to encourage public transport use

This government made owning an EV on avg. $1000/year more expensive (RUC).
That'll soon offset the $3750 rebate on a used EV people got.

That's why we have such a low stock on affordable, used EVs now!

Construction is NZ's 4th largest industry accounting for 8% of our GDP, dwarfing obsolete minor industries like mining

I'm in agreement now that fuel relief just increases demand. We need relief from fuel, not relief for fuel. And societally we have an opportunity to look at what that means. In every crisis, there is an opportunity, and this time it shouldn't be dictated to by fossil fuel propaganda.

He's getting ripped a new one on FB. Lots of Nissan Leafs ex Japan got the $3750 rebate and got into EVs for between $5,000 and $15,000. EV's went from 27% market share in 2023 to 11% 2024 due to CoC's policies. By 2025 that dropped to 5%. lmost tanked the EV industry into oblivion.

What this ad is actually saying, is this: We are going to use the $3Bn that labour set aside to replenish our diesel stock-piles in 2023 at $1.40 a litre, because Shane Jones got involved, and instead, spend it now, on diesel that costs 2x as much. Winning!
