In light of Thomas Coughlan today describing Chris Penk as a "top performer", a reminder that in 2024 he lied about the cost of insulation standards to new builds and Coughlan's employer NZME never corrected the record.

In fact, NZME and the rest of the media instead just dutifully reported Penk's new savings number of $15,000.

So Penk said we'd save $50k, it was really $2-15k, the media (sans RNZ) ignore his lie, and then give him praise for saving (the upper limit of) $15k.

Oh, and Chris Penk is also this guy.

If the media wanted to, they could cast him as "out of touch" and "error-prone", and encourage Luxon to dump him, but because they know he's gonna be promoted today, they praise him.
