Funding NASA is funding this planet‘s near and long-term health. You think solar power just appeared? GPS? Weather prediction? Battery tech? Most aspects of the microcontroller? Velcro? Space sciences are planetary sciences!

Seeing shit like what we've just collectively watched and experienced for the last 9 days and truly, honestly, believing that humanity can do so, so much better. Hell, man, we just sent four people to the moon. THE MOON. We are capable of taking care of each other and rooting out the worst of us

often have i yarned about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and today i yarn again, for did you know: as you climb and roll around, dirt builds up on the prince's lovely pants, and if you stand idly he eventually brushes it off

they bothered to have each bit of dirt remove at the right time. gods

I think the important thing here is knowing that this is *baked* into the company from day 1. They've been doing this for 25 years, before even Miyazaki. The way you prevent that is have it just be fundamentally part of a company's culture. Miyazaki is great, but he's a great designer who fit *them*

According to recent ESA stats, 66% of people in the US regularly play video games. They might as well be targeting "people who like movies."

Though the real people that need to learn the lesson really are the median voters: THIS is why you do not put unserious fools in charge of the government.

THIS is why 'he talks like me' (= he tells it 'like it is') is not a good qualification for president.

So if production resumes at pre-war levels, like, *today,* prices should normalize in ::checks notes:: December. Late December.

And production is not going to snap back to pre-war levels immediately, that is going to take months.

Oh gosh, yes. Video decoders for games is one hell of a complex topic. For a start: patents are everywhere and not free.

If you want to decode a 4K video with bare normal framerate (even on modern hardware), you can't do it without paying a patent to someone. You just can't.

it's rather interesting that the assumption is that people who have concerns or express opposition to AI must be doing so out of ignorance, instead of awareness, of the impact of technology on society

In what is a not great time for the industry it *absolutely rules* to see some mega successful indies using their platform to lift up other indies.

RFK Jr: We are going to rebuild trust in public health by disparaging scientists and public health professionals.

JayB: That’s not enough. We have to rebuild trust in other ways.

RFK Jr: Fab what do you suggest?

JayB: We will censor studies that show we are wrong.

RFK Jr: It shall be done.

It matters to remember the Confederates as unambiguous bad guys in American history because any nation's identity is in large part defined by the narrative of the villains we've defeated: monarchism in the Revolution, the Nazis in WWII, and alongside those, the white supremacist slave power.

'Fun' fact: If you sort your Steam wishlist by user reviews score, it puts any game with under 50 reviews below the 80% mark, even if they're 100% positive.

The store is doing its part to keep those hidden gems hidden.

I feel the need to note, hubris is *really commonly* misused in English.-

Hubris (ὕβρις) is not just arrogance or pride, but rather it is an *action* (there's a verb, ῠ̔βρῐ́ζω) - an insult or affront to an equal or superior designed to humiliate them which is born out of excessive arrogance or pride.

I recently saw someone try to make the "if a game is good, it'll find an audience" argument the other day and I've been mad about it since.

Success is never guaranteed. You can do everything you can to improve your chances, but I wish more people recognized that quality work ≠ guaranteed audience.

Like I am looking at headlines right now and not one of them reads, "Oh shit, we might have just killed freedom of navigation, the foundation of the global economic order."

They are all variations on 'both sides declare victory, ceasefire is fragile.'
