Today would have been a good day for a women's Paris-Roubaix

nobody seems to be saying it aloud but too many locals, shops etc complained about road closures so local politicians asked for it to be moved to Sunday. Then the women's race lost its sponsor Zwift and the region become the sponsor - the "Hauts-de-France" label - giving same politicians more sway

It’s a real shame. Back to back full-day coverage of the greatest one day bike races was (briefly) a season highlight.

Complaints about road closures is sad. And less coverage won't help forge a better bond. But yeah, money is the obvious thing. I buried it in the alt text of my cobbles table: "We'll probably miss the whole [Haveluy to Mons] because ASO doesn't know how to make money beyond the Tour de France."

This is the issue, one day of road closures, big event, ok. Two days you’re pushing your luck. These are public roads and not everyone is a cycling fan, something those trying to commercialise cycling conveniently forget.

Cold hard fact is that ASO don't give a shit about women's races and never have. That's the other thing no one wants to say out loud.

They put them on halfheartedly because not doing it would make them look terrible and also it appeases the UCI but no one can force them to do it well.

I still say costs is the one and only driver, presumably exacerbated by the loss of Zwift.

ASO want to have the race for image reasons but they aren't willing to spend too much time, effort or money on it. The willingness to sell the names of both the TdFF and PR to Zwift was a clear indicator .
