Militant liberalism, board gaming; wordplay; opinions/observations offered for free and mostly left on the shelf anyway.

Have a much longer posting history on Tumblr

Judging by social media, I live in an anti-Carolingian society. There are so many people who somehow know how to write but not how to read.

The stats people are obviously correct that people are wealthier now, but I actually find it perfectly plausible that people were happier during the Great Recession, when nobody ever had to think about Donald Trump.

Yay for the good guys, but what the fuck is that bar graph? That's Fox News-tier data misrepresentation.

Impossible to disagree with a single word that Ben Rhodes (Obama era NSC official) is saying here:

I don't watch TV, so I don't know what the airwaves are like, but in NoVa I am getting bombarded with deceptive anti-redistricting mailers, with absolutely nothing from the pro-redistricting side. It's concerning!

This asshole defending TrackAIPAC has "supporter of the Green Party" in his bio. I guess Russian money in US politics doesn't count.

I haven't played my favorite board game in almost 2 yrs, because I didn't want to widen the skill gap any further before my wife was well enough to try it. Finally, the day draws near.

I want to start a rousing chorus of "A pox on the phony king of America", but I am pretty sure Trump is already syphilitic.

I think the question animating every single Jewish person right now is “is the internet real life?” bc if it is, things are much worse than even the alarmists think.

I don’t really think the internet is real life, but I’m also not totally clear on how strong the boundaries are between the two

The First Amendment guarantees freedom of expression, not a captive audience. Unless a child also has the freedom to walk out, 1A should not protect a conversion therapist any more than it protects a creep cornering someone in an elevator to flirt with them.

The average Evangelical has a hazy understanding of Protestantism. I don't know why you'd be surprised at their total ignorance of everything else.

Right-NIMBYism is the generally correct belief that you can keep your city exclusive by blocking new housing.

Left-NIMBYism is the mistaken idea that you can keep your city affordable and attainable by blocking new housing.

Jews: "We support Harris-Walz because they're more restrained about the war while also fighting antisemitism harder at home."

Everyone else: "Make prices 2019 again! Burrito taxis! TRUMP!"

Now everyone else: "Why did the Jews elect this warmongering government to push up gas prices?"

the same way eliminating car dealers, realtors and other parasitic right-wing industries needs to be a goal of the left for its own survival, eliminating chriorpactors, the supplements industry and other quack medicine needs to be on the agenda too

Currently reading The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, and finding that while the reading level might be lower than Pratchett's typical Discworld books, the content feels more horrifying and less humorous on average than the work for adults.

I don't normally subscribe to the "German has a word for it" thing because all languages can invent and borrow new words!

That said, I can't stop thinking about "hobbyless" as an insult since I saw it a few days ago, so here you go

It promotes a growth mindset!!

I feel that we might have been able to avoid some of the present antisemitism spiral if the people who are just now waking up to it regarding things like "zio" had listened in 2023 when we told them that "from the river to the sea" is a call for ethnic cleansing regardless of which side says it.

It really feels a lot like 2005 right now, where the average moron has realized too late that the president is a catastrophe, but his base is loyal and there's no way to get rid of him for three more years.

Played Ada's Dream today. I would put it in the general basket of "combotastic point salad games", tho it is an outlier there toward higher complexity, and some things are quite costly/difficult to do. Overall, an 8.5 for me, but won't be for those who demand sharp elbows from #boardggames.

Also imagine if people were like “China threatens the existence of Chinese people worldwide because it wraps itself in Chineseness to justify its atrocities” (which it regularly does!). It’s an obviously bigoted argument in the first place.

The part of this after the colon is bad, but the first half is a strange lead-in, since he obviously did not choose his primary opponent.
