Resurfacing this old wisdom imparted by a sage internet denizen of yore, as we embark on this new Bluesky journey together:

Hell I've blocked folks without ever engaging with them, just cuz the shit they were saying was bonkers.

I am here to have fun. Debating will often just give me headache.

If it's a good enough reason to end a pregnancy (doesn't matter, not your business) then it's a good enough reason to block someone (doesn't matter, also not your business).

This is what I keep telling folks - bluesky is segmented enough and has enough options that we each can largely control what our experience is here.

This site has problems of course but the fact that they get us close is very nice

I’ve blocked people for being obnoxiously British-centric about what is and isn’t a turtle 😭

Wait until you learn about Grey Ducks.

I... didn't know there would be any kind of British-exclusive definition of a turtle. Is it something I'm too American to understand?

Yes with wisdom like this you’re definitely worth a follow

I used to never block anyone as it would sometimes make things worse. They sic followers on you and then you'd see people who get blocked wear it as a badge of honour and use it as a way of saying they somehow "won".

I stopped overthinking it and will block instantly now. Love it.

I grew up in the “blocklists are for cowards” dialup era

Then spent a long time in “only friend people you’ve actually met”

Now “social” is like forums without boundaries and I mostly just grouptext

Good words for sure, the only thing to be weary of are people that manipulate, abuse and hurt others that then block those they hurt in order to cover their tracks. Worse is when people believe the lies of those in the wrong. Shades of grey among the action that's in everyone's right to do.

I have to admit, it took me aback the first time I saw an exchange like this. 😅 Coming from Facebook and then Twitter, I had to get my senses back. Blocking is not about you, it’s about me controlling my feed.

I don't like blocking people for disagreements since it tends to lead to an echo chamber, but seriously people need to stop thinking getting blocked is a win.

I find disagreements can swing in two directions. On one end: "I like matcha. You don't. We can live with each other's preferences." On the other end of the spectrum, "Your existence is revolting to me and if you and your family were wiped out I would be glad" should really be worthy of blocking.

I hate this but it's true :c too many people with too many problems. we can't physically understand and know each others' boundaries or lac thereof :/ just shows we may be on a wrong timeline as a species :p

I block people at the slightest whiff of Trump-humping, bigotry, racism, and misogyny. I block for too many emojis, bad grammar, bad spelling, bad takes. Anybody that's annoying can catch a block. Blocks are free. Use them early and often! 👍

if you block instead of engaging in a robust debate on how your opinion that "chickadees are fluffier and cuter than bluebirds, especially in snow" is "woke DEI bullshit", it clearly means you are creating a liberal elitist bubble and hate america because of CRT.

Hell, I'll block people I've never interacted with for being shitty to other people I've never interacted with in a fourth party's thread.

The majority of people I've blocked over the years I never actually interacted with simply because I stumbled across them being deranged vindictive weirdos at other people

Not the same, but I finally blocked my uncle after he started insulting a friends' friend in my friends' thread. Like, I didn't even know this person, but fuck that.

I've blocked people who even just slightly give off annoying vibes because they looked like people I'd never wanna interact with.

Every time I log on I've got 30+ new follows and I block most of them for being useless resist libs, chasers, or bots.

I blocked the person last night on here because they were aggravating me and then they created like seven other accounts to keep harassing me and I just had to keep blocking them.

I'm much less tolerant of annoying people on here than I was when I started on Twitter. However, on here you also seem to encounter far more people who are prepared to apologise when they've made a mistake.

My favorite are the "You block me means I win." dolts and I'm like "lol, have fun"

You get a block… and you get a block… and you … and you…

And old blue eyes in the back… you, you get a DM… then a BLOCK.

Muahahahahahahah

Debate culture is a disease that needs to be rid of.

If thats how you feel then you shouldn't have debated in the first place.
You lost a debate, you got triggered, you blocked.
If you cant be an adult and handle disagreement, dont start a debate in the first place.

Or sometimes after you exchange two posts about something you realize you dont really care that much and also your opponent has stinky vibes, so you shrug and block. It's not that serious.

What if I liked apples and I triggered someone who hates apples and they went on a tangent? I don't want to hear that just because I said I liked something.

I can disagree with people and still block them if they're being a ninny.
