I grew up in the “blocklists are for cowards” dialup era

Then spent a long time in “only friend people you’ve actually met”

Now “social” is like forums without boundaries and I mostly just grouptext

This bit confuses me - for me blocklists were never for cowards in the old days. On the Usenet forums I read oft would you see or write "Plonk" to indicate someone had gone into a killfile. Mass Plonkings were a thing

Heh I still have almost a Pavlovian annoyance toward that—it was almost always a self-righteous Christian who had wandered into the wrong place

I don’t think it was a very healthy approach but I still have some friends I made on those music boards

I do kinda wish I could give temp blocks to people who are just annoying in the moment but might be interesting later but I don’t care enough to unblock them
