i've also had this line of thought lately, but what keeps me in line is that i'll likely never get one once they're available because the price is going to be astronomical due to parts shortages.

I finally jumped on one when they were clearing out the old LCD models around November. NGL it's pretty neat, but I should use it more often than I do.

A friend of mine bought one and I'm so jealous. It's a really neat little machine.

Well unless you can find someone selling theirs you can’t have one because they have been sold out for months.

You can probably get a good one secondhand since they’re all out of stock brand new

i didn't think you could play modded games on it and i wish i hadn't learned that you can

And you can set up lossless scaling to get ever more performance on it. Works like a dream on No Man's Sky but varies by game

It's a computer they stuffed into a button'd shell, you can basically do whatever on it

Kinda need a dock for that, though, adds about $30 to the price tag

It's great tech but it's so much heavier than the Switch that it really aggravates my wrists. I can barely play it holding it up, I have to have it tilted on something at all times. I don't see this drawback mentioned ever unfortunately.

The price might drop when the Steam Frame comes out or you might want that instead

Listen if you want one, and they’re in stock, I don’t think they’re gonna be staying this price for long. You should honestly get one

its actually pretty phenomenal at it too. i've put entire modded civ v games into it cause its so comfy at it

its just a PC, a linux one, so might take a bit more setup to mod things (and some games actually easier some how lmao)

its basically a laptop in a switch shape

It is honestly a phenomenal device, can’t recommend it enough. I got one right before a revision surgery and it carried me through the recovery.

It was the hardest surgery I ever did and I can look back on it fondly solely because I had a steam deck during it :3

Not exaggerating - for me it’s become a necessity (gaming wise). I use it more than any other system I’ve ever owned.

I have a mac, so it was basically steamdeck or nothing. No regrets, even though it makes me feel like an overgrown child with her Gameboy and her bowl of Cheerios and her juice box. Fuck it, I want my Katamari rehash.

I got a standard LCD Steam Deck last year after the Switch 2 reveal was underwhelmin, and now I'm using it for work as well as gaming. It's basically replaced both my laptop and Switch 1.

You can play Fallout New Vegas on it and don't need to download the patches to fix the bug that makes everyone bald like you do on Linux, it rules.

It doesn't replace my computer but it can do against the storm, rimworld, slay the spire well enough on the go.

I played Slay the Spire for the first time last night and that would be perfect for it, tbh. I wanna lay in my bed and play that and not sit at a desk.

I kept buying gaming computers that would start to freak out bc of the load of games on it. For a significantly lesser amount of money I got a steam deck and I have barely touched my laptop since except to make purchases

I play varying levels of graphics but Baldur's Gate 3 looks great and so does Stardew Valley so I feel like that's a pretty broad graphics range

Steam Deck just runs Linux. Do you really want to be a Linux user

What do you mean "just"? It can run Windows if you're into that kind of thing.

It's great but very hard to get right now because of the RAM crisis. Currently best bet right now is to find someone selling one locally or on used hardware selling sites.

I'm not saying you need one, but almost every game that I had bought on PS5 or Switch, I found myself thinking "I'd rather have this on Steam Deck"

No, no they are not. They went out of stock the week after I got my bonus and decided I wanted one.

Instead I got a new phone and a chest of drawers, because those are in stock

Honestly, our steam deck has been a lifesaver for @cannabunnyol.bsky.social, bc we don't have a place to put a desk rn, and they can't cart their computer to work like I can
