this is at least the fourth remake of the original 1995 anime, right? (I know the anime, itself, is an adaptation of the manga but all the remakes have been remaking the anime, not the manga)

None of them are really remakes. Stand Alone Complex cribs from a lot of the same chapters but pretty differently, then also does stuff neither of the Oshii movies adapted alongside totally new story arcs (and also a random Appleseed link at the end)

Arise bills itself as a prequel to whichever version of the story you like best and kinda references older material but in a way that doesn't feel like a straight adaptation. You would *think* the live action version would be a remake of the 1st movie but it's more of a mashup of SAC.
