None of them are really remakes. Stand Alone Complex cribs from a lot of the same chapters but pretty differently, then also does stuff neither of the Oshii movies adapted alongside totally new story arcs (and also a random Appleseed link at the end)

What were you talking about then, the second Oshii movie? Or the live action one that wasn't a remake either? The Arise movie that got the most Nintendo title a movie can get? The web shorts? The movie about old people kidnapping Togusa's kid? None of them are remakes.

Arise bills itself as a prequel to whichever version of the story you like best and kinda references older material but in a way that doesn't feel like a straight adaptation. You would *think* the live action version would be a remake of the 1st movie but it's more of a mashup of SAC.

Couldn't bring myself to finish SAC_2045 but it seemed like another totally new plotline that is sort of playing the same notes but isn't even a loose remake.
