So far, Vance’s foreign policy record is yelling at Zelensky for not thanking Trump enough, campaigning for AfD in Germany and Orban in Hungary, getting rejected by the Pope on his invite to the US, and failing in the Iran negotiations.

France 🇫🇷 doubles electrification support to €10bn/year through 2030 — EVs, heat pumps, industry.
The reason?

The Strait of Hormuz crisis making fossil fuel dependence impossible to ignore.

Geopolitical shocks don’t just raise prices. They change what’s politically possible.

As Hungary votes, would recommend this piece about how Viktor Orban has used public money to bankroll an international ultraconservative network - including Roger Scruton cafes and €10k a month for failed Reform candidate Matt Goodwin

People voting reform are like someone who has been served a big pile of dog poo for their dinner for the last 10 years and are now saying ‘please can I have another helping yum yum’

A new study shows that Black women outpace every other group of women in workforce participation. Yet they are still paid less & retire in poverty at twice the rate of white women. This is a system. It is long past time this country started carrying them the way they have carried us.

When I say that what used to be Britain's university 'system' is in complete chaos and enduring revolutionary upheaval, I really mean it. If anything I'm underplaying the whole thing.

All those action films of the last 20 years when the hero has to save America from some disaster - just want to edit someone coming in and saying ‘don’t bother it’s not worth it - if you knew what was going to happen’)

I think starting the conversation would be liberating for Britain. All the energy directed at maintaining an outdated image of the past and denying it could go on building the future.

www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1d9z1q2997o this article fails yet again as it avoids the elephant in the room - an insane president (apparently Mercurial is the chosen adjective ffs) plus it shies away from Vance’s interference in European politics. Smearing, insulting and backing right wing populists,

In his first 100 days, Zohran Mamdani has:

-Delivered millions in restitution for workers cheated by gig companies
-Cracked down on predatory landlords
-Launched the first stage of a universal childcare program
-Fixed thousands of potholes in NYC streets

This is what leadership looks like.

This analysis is total nonsense.

1. There is no chance at all that net migration will average 235k in 2026-27.

It will be much closer to zero than 235k

2. There will be declining school pupil numbers & closures for demographic reasons

Don’t shield non-vulnerable households from price signals; concentrate support on those who need it; boost longer-term resilience; prepare to intervene quickly if unexpected problems arise; Monitor measures – +their impacts – introduced in other countries; Develop+prepare for worse case scenarios:

Ok I'm bored and want to procrastinate work so let's do a thread instead. Wanna hear a story?

Alright then, story it is. So gather around, children, because now we're going to talk about the most important science book you've probably never heard of.

Ready? Off we go, then.

With Hungarian elections on the horizon, EU leaders are finally recognizing that this is not simple veto politics, but a sustained strategy of undermining—and instrumentalizing—European integration in ways that benefit both Putin and Trump. Long overdue.

Again, there is simply no comparison in how Biden's not-100%-surgically-clean implementation of Donald Trump's barely planned timetable to end the Forever War in 🇦🇫 was covered vs how this totally lawless authoritarian omnishambles is being portrayed on the front pages.

Conversely, it's striking that the 2 parties that got Iran most wrong - & were most adrift from the public - lead the polls.

It's a reminder that voters are more likely to punish govts for the consequences of the war than those who cheered it on - unless voters are actively reminded of that support

Country should be happy to show them the door! We need to reconnect with values and policies that make people feel safe, secure and valued and where the worry of making ends meet is furthest from our concern. We have the wealth and means as a country to achieve this so why don’t we??

After seeing Trump’s USA over the last year can we now agree to abandon strategies to appease those who seem trapped in pursuing a right wing hell hole country. Sure many of them maybe misinformed or perfectly polite people in other walks of life but the only way forward is to stand up for those

If you wanted to design a system to have as few pupils as possible doing languages:

1. Dither at Primary
2. Muddle at transition
3. Unfair at GCSE
4. No mainstream options post 16, only bizarre A Level
5. Kill off evening classes
6. No ecosystem of private courses
7. Uni focus on specialist degrees

As hard as he tries, Justin Webb can't find anyone credible who believes Trump has played a blinder over Iran.
He'll keep trying, though.
