People fawning over 4K which is MINIMALLY better than 1440P but uses drastically more resources (GPU power, SSD space, etc) just baffle me too.
They want shit to "Look better" but play worse.
Legit dumb people.

OLED 1440P with 120 + frames is the real game changer, not twice the fucking pixels.

also as someone who collects videos, the difference in file size is insane. 1080p is about a quarter of 4k and looks fine. 720p is less than half of 1080 and still looks fine. 360p is... tolerable but you can save hours of video per gigabyte!

Yeah I first had a "WTF?" moment *way* back when FF15 came to PC and there was an optional, roughly FORTY GIGABYTE 4K pack you could download.
I thought holy fuck half the game again on just that?
And the bad developers routinely lump those 4K textures in for you without letting you choose :-\

It reminds me of when I tried to download a fanmade remaster of MEGAS XLR. for about 20-ish episodes, it was over 100GB and I was like "This takes up HOW much space???"

Some of my favorite games were pixel based, and they still hold up. The obsession to make games SUPER REALISTIC 4K GRAPHICS is not understandable to me.

So this, and I can't stress this enough,LEVEL DESIGNER who wasn't involved with graphics or the engine or almost anything, said "Oh yeah if we made games like Undertale we'd have to shut our studio". This was maybe 2K18 or so, 2K19?
They're doing it to themselves & dragging us along for the ride lol

I actually had some level designer NPC at Dice chew me out for saying "Look at Undertale. It had almost no budget and can be argued (Vs modern games looks awful. people LOVE it!" and the wider post was about mechanics and ideas rather than graffix. It was more nuanced than this but msg limits.

For me personally, using a 4K 240 Hz OLED monitor, I can't really go back to 1440p. The difference in sharpness and desktop space is evident. Please don't bite.

yeah, fully agreed. that's the same monitor specs i have now, and 1440p still had me seeing the "screen door" effect that people complain about with VR because the individual pixels were still visible to me. but i understand that this is actually complaining about having good eyes, so eh
