Some of my favorite games were pixel based, and they still hold up. The obsession to make games SUPER REALISTIC 4K GRAPHICS is not understandable to me.

I fucking love a good, warm, cozy pixel or art-leaning game.
This dead-end chase for HYPER PHOTOREALISM OMFG has a super niche place and it will age badly as we refine tech to make it even more SUPY HERPY DURP RELIZM-like.

I actually had some level designer NPC at Dice chew me out for saying "Look at Undertale. It had almost no budget and can be argued (Vs modern games looks awful. people LOVE it!" and the wider post was about mechanics and ideas rather than graffix. It was more nuanced than this but msg limits.

So this, and I can't stress this enough,LEVEL DESIGNER who wasn't involved with graphics or the engine or almost anything, said "Oh yeah if we made games like Undertale we'd have to shut our studio". This was maybe 2K18 or so, 2K19?
They're doing it to themselves & dragging us along for the ride lol

That's crazy wtf?!? There are also tons and tons and tons of games since Undertale that are very simplistic yet are adored by many! Even the old stuff from the DS era has fans!
