We sent people to THE FUCKING MOON and they’re like “splashdown will be at 8:07 eastern” and it fucking WAS that is genuinely insane to me like they had parachutes there were probably wind speed variables involved and they got it to the goddamn minute?! SCIENCE

"LOOK AT THIS NEW PIC!" texts ....

This one is worth it.

First PoC and first woman to go around another world. Don't stop talking about this point. It's important.

I did not remember that Eric Swalwell ran for president.
He declared in April 2019 and withdrew in July 2019.

Data centres are the opposite.

It's sudden, unregulated (and even fast-tracked), concentrated and acute, it essentially universally increases fossil fuel use, it tends to contribute to rising power bills, and the products are used to make everything we value worse (as GenAI degrades all digital)

Load growth for the sake of replacing individual fossil fuel – powered cars and appliances with electric versions that are both more energy efficient and powered by solar and wind is good.

Load growth for the sake of load growth is not.

Two things we can do to stop the next pandemic:
1️⃣ Reduce wildlife trade.*
(👉 *But: criminalization drives trade underground, and we find that illegal trade accelerates spillover. We need new ideas.)
2️⃣ Ramp up disease surveillance in wildlife markets, farms, and supply chains.

Anyway, I know some Maine Democrats will scold me, but whatevs, I’m inspired by @andrealaflamme.bsky.social’s so-called “long shot” campaign. She’s a reproductive rights activist & public health professor. I like that she doesn’t have a Nazi tattoo. I donated to her campaign & she wrote me a letter!

Excellent day in the field with a bunch of artists talking about fire history in northern New Mexico. Tomorrow we’ll discuss suppression, forest management, and how changing climate is making our landscapes more flammable.

Temporary CDC “Director” Jay Bhattacharya is a non-practicing MD, economist, and whiny little shitbird with a persecution complex.

He has ZERO education, training or experience in epidemiological study design and has no business at deciding what methodology should be used to evaluate vaccines.

I toss finch seed outside on my balcony for the little birds. Today, a junco came inside. I opened two doors and she flew out the front door in a mad rush, but then tried to land on the railing for the steps, lost her grip and slid down the railing like a skateboarder showing off. So funny!

I'm deep down the rabbit hole on FROGFISH, 60 species of anglerfish in family Antennariidae.

They are deeply, utterly WEIRD & MARVELOUS.

Most walk on modified fins.
Others use jet propulsion.
Some are capable of air-breathing.
Some are "hairy", others blend perfectly in sargassum.

A closeup on the area covered by Orientale impact ejecta. To the left, an intensely cratered area of lunar farside highlands. To the right, the terrain is softened and wavy-looking--that's part of the Orientale ejecta splat, which scoured and buried older features. www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2explore/55194361976/

**“If people lose [cognitive] diversity or get into intellectual laziness, of course, that is going to affect our society greatly,” Dehghani said. **

"Laziness" misses the point, I think. It's atrophy.

Yee's not flashy like Newsom, but she doesn't take money from billionaires and she knows how our state runs. She's the adult in the room and she cares about regular people.

Because she doesn't take money from dubious sources, she needs grassroots support.

Here's me doing that.
We need Yee.

Betty Yee is running for governor of California.
She's the most experienced and capable candidate of the lot.

I'm told that Californians don't know who she is. But she served two terms as State Controller, an elected office.
We voted her in twice!
