Why would anyone willingly mark their own account as a bot account? Can't we just flag bot accounts instead?

There are some 'legitimate' bot accounts like weather and news aggregators that people value. There are even automated feeds for things like images from the JWST.

True, but those bot accounts are not reposting everyone else's stuff, with no actual interaction. Those types of accounts don't farm followers.
