Dad, husband, IT guy, Star Wars enjoyer, occasional children's book author, app developer, and unrepentant Michigan man. Takes you agree with are my own, spooky ghost responsible for all others.

A $60B company just paid a small town in Michigan $9M to set itself on fire so a $300B company can continue its quest for 100% human unemployment. I love it here.

2025 feels like that late-stage game of monopoly where you just go round and round paying rent and utilities forever and nobody knows what the rules are anymore and everyone’s just waiting for it all to end except the one player who cheated and has all the money

I want to Fix The Damned Roads, just not my very specific roads at the very specific times I am using them. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!

… has a very particular feel to it. It’s colder than it was when you got in the car. Quieter. Still. Others you encounter there are mostly on the same type of journey you are and there’s a knowing camaraderie to those interactions. Sunrise dissolves the club entirely, until next time. (2/2)

A distinctly American vibe that I really love: late-night-road-trip-pit-stop-core. Something about being in a public space, one open for your patronage but also empty or nearly empty of other humans, in the small hours of the morning while a little delirious from hours in your vehicle… (1/2)

Would love to see this kind of energy in the Big Ten.

In a potentially related follow-up question to my last one, why are there casters on the floor of the kids’ room? Two sets. From what? Nothing up here even uses casters. In fact, I can think of nothing in this whole house which would use them. What would even use only two of them??

And yet.

Serious question though, where are all my kids’ socks?

I love that my son enjoys gaming. Mario Wonder, LEGO Star Wars, Mario Maker, old SNES stuff... but also. Just sometimes.

Marriage is…

TIRED: yelling across the house at one another until one of you pretends to have heard the other and just says, “OKAY, GOT IT” to make the pain stop.

WIRED: taking turns hitting the snooze button on your respective phone alarms until one of you hurls the other into the sun.

Ordered Insomnia Cookies, came downstairs and saw through the window by the door they might have been delivered. Pressed my face up to the window to be sure, made exactly this face when confirmed.

Looked up, delivery driver still present. There was eye contact.

Am cookie sicko.

Found this absolute unit of (what I think is) a Chinese mantis in the back yard. Carry on, little guy. Eat your fill and tell your friends - plenty of god-forsaken yellow jackets to go around.

Having been momentarily (but deeply) puzzled by back-to-back posts about Waverley (UK) and Mount Pleasant (DC), it has become clear to me that I am too Michigan-brained to freely associate with the civilized world. We’ll always have Paris, though… and I’ll see you in Hell!

As end-of-empire scenarios go it is so much more dignified to get your capital city sacked by the Visigoths than to have a bunch of illiterate rich people in their 70s doing it through a series of incomprehensible tantrums because their brains were defeated by their phones.

Big difference here is that the machine replacing the person will produce a work product of far lower quality than the person it replaces. Executives will then be faced with the decision to prioritize cost savings against quality. Certainly, they can all be trusted to make the right call.

When did Americans start saying ‘zed’ instead of ‘zee’? Starting to see this pop up more and more and I have several questions.

I wonder how many times this has to happen before the c-suite learns that any savings realized from outsourcing are very, very temporary.

In Return of the Jedi, when Threepio and R2 are walking to Jabba's palace, I always thought Threepio said, "Of course I'm quiet, and you should be too." I thought it was a nice continuation of him telling R2 to shut the hell up as properly as possible. Subtitles are devastating to my head-canon.
