Politically homeless, would love to save the world from itself

"Fascism was an attempt by the state to save the market by abolishing society."

"Angrynomics" by Lonergan and Blyth.

Great quote, so relevant today.

After 80 years of looking the other way as its own government routinely and flagrantly ignored international law, news agency naturally assumes its readers are unfamiliar with the concept as it patiently explains why it's bad to do so.

7 months out from the midterms, here it comes - scare the fuck out of the GOP base by blaming brown & black immigrants for everything. It’s their major go-to.

Israel is going to do everything it possibly can to undermine a permanent peace because Bibi’s vision for a “Greater Israel” devoid of Palestinians or Lebanese has not been achieved,

and his window of opportunity closes in November.

The days of blind support for Israel in the USA are behind us.

The US currently has no credibility. According to Ian Bremmer, Iran is negotiating seriously with the UN (to allow fertilizer to get out) and some individual countries but not the US.

The current proposal on the table would be a huge win for Iran.

Nobody should take comfort from the latest Trump TACO. By even alluding to genocide and nuclear weapons, Trump is lowering the threshold for other countries to act similarly.

And making the US ever less likely to be seen as a suitable partner, much less ally.

Given Trump’s Easter threats to carry out new war crimes in Iran, we should think one or two steps ahead about a coup attempt connected to the war. And then deter it. (1/17)

The US is coming face to face with the consequences of prioritizing the military above all else.

And so are the rest of us.

Americans need to wake up and demand an end to the aggressive militarism that has dominated US politics since WWII. It isn't making you or anyone else safer.

Turning Iran into another Syria might make Netanyahu happy but it will cause enormous death and hardship across the region and into Europe.

Democracy Now is reporting that the US is considering using nuclear weapons in Iran.

This is incredibly dangerous as it would signal permission for Putin to nuke Ukraine.

This isn't the first time the US has considered using nukes in a war of choice - they were on the table during the Vietnam war.

US pilot rescued in Iran, the US managed to lose several planes in the process and reportedly bombed surrounding areas continuously throughout the night targeting reportedly armed tribesmen and unarmed random civilians.

CNN article disguises religious propaganda as news.

Part of the decline into Christian nationalism.

Apparently "national security" is incompatible with truth.

Not only is this true, it's a common feature of US invasions, coups and other military aggression. Rarely are any nations, including the US better off because of them. Rarely is the US safer after them.

Which begs the question why Americans keep electing militaristic governments.

Iran is highly educated and independent. It has a modern history that includes both progressive rights for women and democracy.

It's reasonable to conclude it would be a far better place if it weren't for centuries if colonialism followed by 50 years of hostility from the US and Israel.

Just a reminder that the gulf states hosting US bases are themselves repressive theocratic dictatorships built with slave labor to attract wealthy western sociopaths bent on avoiding taxes in the home countries.

For all the demonization of Iran, these states are in some ways much worse.

Why is it a war crime when Russia hits a bridge, but a strategic target when the U.S. or Israel do the same?

The moral crisis this war exposes will take far longer to resolve than the energy crisis, and will cost far more in the long run.

Notes from the much larger and more significant war: in March Russia gained no net territory in Ukraine, and lost more soldiers than it was able to replace.

Huh. All the libertarians flocking to Dubai to enjoy the good life are finding out what happens when they cross the government.

I've been saying this for a long time. People dislike Democrats as much as Republicans.

The ONLY reason the Dems will win the midterms is that trump is such an idiot.

If Democrats don't reform the party, the next authoritarian will be far, far worse.

Exactly the type occurrence that drove opposition to the war in Vietnam and Iraq.

How many times will the US start the same stupid, destructive war?

USAF General admits the F35 is unnecessary for defending North America. So if Canada buys them, we're basically volunteering for US foreign wars.

Bring on the Gripen!
