We should make door hinges an art form again!

Imagine how proud the one who did the iron work and the one who hewed the wood would be to know their work is still viewed and valued hundreds of years into the future.

What a pity - didn't see that when I was there. Is it usually open or closed?

I’ll have to shoe this to my family so they no longer think I’m weird for my interest in awesome old doors!

It’s good that the description includes an approximate date. I’m not particularly interested in religions, but church buildings are fascinating. After all, they reveal whether the area was home to wealthy people or rather poor ones.

Fascinating to see how buildings change as you drive from pretty much any direction towards South East England. Reflects where the wealth ended up (apart from landowners or industrialists).

That’s stunning. I have a photo of a similar o e from Skipwith, East Riding, but can’t find it. Do have this one, however; it’s a Saxon one from Stillingfleet near Selby…the figures are support to be Adam and Eve.

Hello Kevin. I have found that door from Skipwith just north of Selby. Fascinating church with salvaged Roman gateway into the bell tower. Not as fancy as your one from Wells...but a powerful design.
