Ossoff’s statement is 1000x stronger than Schumer-Jeffries. This is a moderate Jewish Senator from a Trump state. The split isn’t moderate vs progressive, but leading vs poll-reacting

The split is people with courage vs spineless cowards.

Notably he explains the purpose of the war powers resolution, which Schumer did not and many people seized on that

The statement of a politician who is thinking of a 2028 run and smart enough to know that anything that smells of “You gotta hand it to him” about Trump’s illegal war will be radioactive for democratic primary voters.

Ossoff is young (age being an important split both among Dem politicos & also among American Jews)

Also a millennial who didn't start running for office until after likely having the formative political experience of being lied to about Iraq, vs Holden Bloodfeast.

Let's not forget that Trump tore up the JPOAC primarily because it was negotiated under Obama. He'd rather cover up his own criminality at the expense of American sodiers' lives & at the same time help Netanyahu achieve his fever dreams (see bomb delivery). Trump will purloin Iranian resources next.

(Worth remembering Netanyahu has criminality of his own to cover up, & not just war crimes. Once he's no longer PM he'll be indicted on corruption charges.)

Well, I was warning of the buildup almost two weeks ago, asking Congress where the heck were they. A few members have done this…. waiting until after the shooting started.

I want John Ossoff to run for President. He's been so strong in his ability to authentically message the harm to our country of Trump and his billionaire cronies.

This is how all the Dems should be talking, at the very least.

It's not even polls driven. Jeffries and Schumer are decorous cowards, they're cowering and protecting their members who are also mostly cowards. Their decorum amounts to an excuse/cover for their cowardice. Also, owned by AIPAC.

They are on the side of the 21% who want the war. They are collaborators against Democracy.

They're less cowards than enemies. They need to be driven out of leadership.

1000x stronger but still 1000% wrong. Israel has more nukes than France or the UK. Explain it to me like I am 5 why Israel can have them but Iran can't.

Do you want Iran to have nukes? Or any other country for that matter.

This man is the future of the party. People need to realize this.

Agreed 100%. It's so infuriating to me that there is absolutely zero coordinated messaging among Dems in Congress regarding Trump's illegal attack on Iran. As a result, a few, like Ossoff, made some powerful statements, but most are mealy-mouthed crap.

Jake - what does Ossoff’s religion have to do with his great statement? Why mention it?

Bc many ppl believe Jewish ppl should automatically be pro war against boogeyman Iran & of course pro Israel no matter what.

I think it could be because Moskowitz and Gottheimer oppose the vote on the War Powers Resolution and Landsman legitimized the war in his statement. They seem to have abdicated even the need for congressional debate. As a Jewish Democrat, I feel like they aren’t doing their job.

As a rabbi, I think you understand that us Jews are at particular risk of increased antisemitism in the wake of the U.S. going to war with Israel against a Muslim country. Ossoff put his neck out there to lead, a good sign for liberal Jews. (Also, we’re not just a ‘religion,’ odd thing to say.)

Just makes me think that nearly all of the incumbents MUST be compromised if they’re not campaigning to burn the place to the ground. They ALL need to go.

I mean even reacting correctly to the polls would be better than what they're actually doing. The polling is pretty clear at this point about what the democratic electorate is looking for in a candidate and it's sure as fuck not reflexive support of anything the IDF does

Yes, much better... not multiple paragraphs that a lot of the "uneducated" who need to read it won't..... he shows he's angry about it and isn't pulling punches. Jeffries is typically walking on eggshells and not risking anything while not accomplishing anything either.

Schumer and Jeffries are PUSSIES.

Underplaying the Bought vs. Not-Bought, imo. Schumer and Jeffries are "leaders" in fundraising. They actually want what Israel wants, because they're paid to. If they get the added bonus of domestic sentiment toward Trump going down, it's a welcome gift to them. They think Midterms will work.

It ain’t the polls bro they just use that excuse when they can

I think Israel is the animating force. Schumer and Jeffries, especially Schumer, are hopelessly compromised. To the point that you wonder about primary loyalty of Schumer.

The problem is the actions of Trumo & the inaction of Pubs.

Not to quibble bc I do think you’re right overall, but even poll-reacting compels this reaction. Attacking Iran is just deeply unpopular, at least compared to historical analogues—and certainly within the Democratic Party. Schumer’s finger is glued to a pulse, but it’s AIPAC’s not the party base’s.

And I think Schumer is doing what he’s doing out of (very bad) genuine ideological commitment, not any kind of opportunism

look if Trump lied about wiping out the Iranian nuclear program... then Iran has an intact nuclear weapons program... so how does Jon then say Iran is not a threat to American allies? Oh no he didn't say those exact words did he? Jon isn't asking us to think about American allies is he?

Even better, it's clear that they *did* use polling - just as a guide for how to frame the war in the most damning and damaging way for the admin possible - rather than as an excuse to justify rolling over for it.

Schumer/Jeffries aren’t even poll leading. They’re donor-leading.

But the polls say only 21% are in favor of the "war". So they are not even poll-reacting. Ds, once again, are doing the opposite of what their base wants, and what Americans want. Ds are with the 21%.

Isn't the fundamental difference here that the caucus heads (i.e. leadership) have different constraints and responsibilities?
