I've had this poster by @captainhanyuu.art mounted on my wall for a few years now, I do them daily! An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure
I was having lots of carpal tunnel problems several years ago, and went to OT for it. The OT asked me what I liked doing that it was interfering with and said "Oh you know, I work on a computer all day, and I play piano, and (*bashfully*) a lot of video games."
ty for saying this bc i am an artist about to get surgery for cubital tunnel, carpal tunnel, AND pronator syndrome all at once this week! in fact my ulnar nerve is way worse off than my median 😭
I have basically always done this stretch just because my immediate response to most forms of discomfort is to stretch it out and I always feel like the only of my artist friends without carpal tunnel or arthritis. (Sometimes makes me feel like I just don't draw enough and I'm not a *real* artist.)
These all work very well btw and I've been doing them for years with no real issues. You gotta do them more than once if you're doing a lot with your hands.
Remember: Just a bit of pressure, not too much, and do it regularly. It helps!
It may help too, but since I've invested in a desk with large depth, I use my Elbow a support/pivot. Een after long drawing sessions, I get almost no wrist pain because large strokes are done with elbow's help ( but I kill my shirt fabric there 😂) unno If my explanation makes sense but still.
