It's also corrosive. There's a direct line between American work arrangements (and laws), and where America finds itself politically/socially. That line runs through the place where profit is created by workers and too much of that value is redistributed to companies.

America is effectively unique in that it allows Employment at Will, which means workers can be fired for any reason or no reason (with a few exceptions). EAW is rejected elsewhere because it leads to this kind of situation, in which human lives are used to protect profit.

There are a number of reasons why it seems to me like the fight is more with our employers than our government, but this is an example of one. There is zero rationale for this vote, other than to undermine worker interests.
