As promised, here's a quick portfolio post for all the new people. I do satellite laser ranging for a living now, but have spent years as a photographer, mostly birds, space, underwater, and other stuff as it presents. Here are 4 of my best. :) πŸ™πŸ¦‰πŸ“·πŸŒΏπŸ§ͺπŸ” Prints and stuff at www.myhawaiianimages.com

This is my mediocre photography representing Tucson. Lenticular clouds, and whatever the hell that red sky was.

I was in my 50's the 1st time I saw lenticular clouds. We drove thru northern New Mexico and we were shocked! We didn't even know they were clouds. There were dozens of them. As soon as we got phone signal I looked them up. Since then I have only seen 1 or 2 over a mountain west of PHX. Amazing!

Do you have any good pics of a Triton's Trumpet? There are surprisingly few online.

I have a few, tho none out and crawling around--I only encountered that once in my teaching days and didn't have a camera--in my gastropod gallery here: www.myhawaiianimages.com/Home2/Diving-In-Hawaii/TaxonomyandIdentification/Invertebrates/Sea-Snails-Prosobranchia

Checking these out again (already checked and followed you a while ago) and I literally -- yes, in the true meaning of that word -- gasped when I looked at the lava photo.

Idle curiosity: Do you ever take photos of the feral chickens in Hawaii?

Not usually, although now that you mention it the ones with the most jungle fowl DNA are quite striking. Maybe I will at some point. :) Thanks for the kind words!

I am amazed yet terrified. I feel there is a beast in that second photo that is trying to get me

There is, but it's 1500 light years away so you have time to run. :)

Utterly astounding…

Uff… the octopus… have fallen deep and fast in love with them (I read The Soul of an Octopus, by Sy Montgomery)

I saw so many monarchs last week!! Lots of huge big leaf crown flower trees or bushes or whatever they are!

Yeah, ornate octopus are endemic to Hawaii, and are really incredible to watch. :)

These are lovely photos, particularly the octopus (I would say that) but how can you have a cat and no cat photos? Have you *met* the internet???

Are you on BI or Maui? Saw the Southern Cross for the 1st time this year on Saturday (Hilo…my driveway faces due south). Wish I had the ability to photograph it! It’s a spiritual experience for me to see it!

Excellent! I'm on Maui, and do my observing/photography from the workplace, the summit of Haleakala. Easier to see the Southern Cross from altitude. :) You've got Eta Carinae and associated nebula nearby as well.
