In Indonesia there were stories of drones used to fight against armed groups in Papua, and there were stories of police abusing local civilians, but this is genuinely the first time I heard about drones being used on civilians. I hate this. I hate what the country is doing to Papua.

I also know/know of many indigenous groups who have successfully used drones and drone-collected data to protect their land and their interests, so, well, it’s complicated. I wrote this back in 2015:
