This year's #kakapo breeding season has been the biggest on record:
- 256 eggs (252 in 2019)
- 148 fertile eggs (116 in 2019)
- 105 eggs hatched (86 in 2019).
It'll be 2+ months until we know how many chicks will fledge (73 in 2019). There are currently 95 alive. #conservation #kakapo2026 #birds

NZ Food Network used to just have administrative data from food banks. They could count meals given out, and visits, but they didn't have any real person-based data (despite what some news stories implied)

*This* is a real survey using established food insecurity measures and is a lot more credible

The same week the NZ state of the environment freshwater report was released, showing dire rivers and lake pollution caused by agribusiness, the Govt changed the rules to allow beef cattle and deer into rivers and wetlands (previously excluded). environment.govt.nz/acts-and-regulations/regulations/stock-exclusion-regulations/
