Agree 95% of the time but my recent theatre experience of Project Hail Mary would've been better if it was 45 minutes longer and more boring so my core belief of "cut, cut and cut again" has been shaken
I have found my people!! Imo 90 minutes is a really great length for most films to aim for, and it’s rare that the extra run time is truly needed. Like, I will stand by Possession being as long as it is, but not every movie is or needs to be Possesion.
Look there are lots of long movies I love, but studios cannot keep being weird about budget vs box office if they insist on filming 40% more footage than necessary and limiting the number of showtimes possible per theater.
I'd tweak this to say that the issue is that they don't make 90 min genre pics anymore. Comedies, legal thrillers, detective stories, sports movies, non-IP action movies, etc. You can appreciate an epic that earns a long runtime more when everything isn't already some form of that for no good reason
