Agree 95% of the time but my recent theatre experience of Project Hail Mary would've been better if it was 45 minutes longer and more boring so my core belief of "cut, cut and cut again" has been shaken

Movies longer than two hours and 30 minutes should be required, by law, to have an intermission

Mediocre movies are too long. If you’re not going to be a really good movie, do us all a courtesy and just be 90min.

I have found my people!! Imo 90 minutes is a really great length for most films to aim for, and it’s rare that the extra run time is truly needed. Like, I will stand by Possession being as long as it is, but not every movie is or needs to be Possesion.

If we're gonna keep making these long movies then bring back intermissions.

Movies should either be 90 mins or 180 mins with no in-between. And the 180 mins should be used VERY sparingly.

And once in a blue moon, 237 or 317

if the movie's only ninety minutes, how are we supposed to show you the hero's origin story for the eighth time?

But Gita, this is a good take.

Look there are lots of long movies I love, but studios cannot keep being weird about budget vs box office if they insist on filming 40% more footage than necessary and limiting the number of showtimes possible per theater.

Either put the budget into the script and pre production or watch your tentpoles eat shit over and over the choice is clear

Yes! Not every movie needs to be 2+ hours long. Give me something in a tight 90

I'd tweak this to say that the issue is that they don't make 90 min genre pics anymore. Comedies, legal thrillers, detective stories, sports movies, non-IP action movies, etc. You can appreciate an epic that earns a long runtime more when everything isn't already some form of that for no good reason

EVERY SINGLE TIME I come out of the cinema. I say "this could have been 20/30 mins shorter". I'm driving my friends bonkers every time I say it.

"Project Hail Mary is the best movie I'll see this year" and "Project Hail Mary was way too fucking long" can both be true statements.
