It *is* terrible, and yes the US *is* sucky about this

But the hate group that spurred this on is Australian

And the UK is spearheading a lot of laws that factor in as well

This is a global issue and we've got to all stand together on it 😤

collective shout might be australian, but they are a sub-group of Alliance Defending Freedom, an American organization that has started up several regional branches or campaigns globally

I'm in no way trying to say the US isn't particularly terrible (it is)

My point is more that trying to go "oh but it's just the US" actively turns a blind eye to the bigotry going on elsewhere, and therefore impedes progress with organizing + enacting change

Specifically I meant the payment processors and credit companies that are spearheading it, Visa and Mastercard, are US owned.

Frankly, the fact it was an aussie hate group makes it so much worse.

Also if note: remember that your banks partner with these payment processors when giving out cards and putting pressure on your banks to respond can be effective.
