We're rightfully critical of taxes being spent on war and genocides instead of the safety net.

But since 9/11, defense spending is largely funded through debt, not increased taxes. Here's more about the costs of war.

Workers in the US are obviously not the primary victims of US imperialism, but they are abandoned and fleeced by the same war state that kills countless people abroad. From blood banks to food pantries, a snapshot of a country whose raison d’etre is increasingly open sadism and violence. My latest.

We need to raise $50K by Friday to support reporting on picket lines, in neighborhoods, in the streets, and everywhere people are fighting for each other.

wrote about how rage at America's wealthiest, particularly in tech (Musk, Zuck, Thiel), and the inequality of a new gilded age is powering a wave of efforts to tax the rich — out of organizing and anger that's built from Occupy to the 2016 Bernie campaign to Zohran's election. @us.theguardian.com

I realized I didn't really make this clear in the post text (was up against the character limit, my bad): I am specifically looking for folks who experienced this in *political organizing or community organizing* spaces/work — if you saw the Chavez news and were reminded of a similar situation.

Chatted with the brilliant @michaelwaters.bsky.social about the new sex testing policy at the Olympics—which is really a revival of an earlier regime of gender surveillance & control. His book, The Other Olympians, traces this history to the 1936 Games in Berlin.

hi I wrote about Chappell Roan, public orgies of misogyny, and the trap of ignoring ‘celebrity news’ when misogynist harassment campaigns affect all women. None of the outrage slop we’ve seen is about Chappell's behavior—it's just a bunch of misogynists are justifying what they already wanted to do

just saw that Boston University took down Pride flags over spring break. this is why this work matters: the academic repression and exclusion of marginalized identities on campuses was piloted in states like Florida—and it's already happening in states that people assume are "different", exempt.
